Ehrmantraut Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 I transact on SNA to buy and sell audiophile gear and donate accordingly. Iām very impressed with 99% of all buyers/sellers on this forum and many of you have become trusted friends where we can safely move on or move up our gear. I often sell too cheaply or buy too high but Iām more interested in the condition of the gear and story rather than just āflippingā. Iām not here to make money but to enjoy the journey albeit somewhat painful sometime. I normally include insured standard shipping and ask for PayPal, cash on pickup or rarely EFT. Depends on the buyer/seller. The point? I get frustrated with people who ask for āPayPalā fees unless itās F+F (which isnāt safe unless you trust that person). To compound that, they often quote completely unrealistic PP fees. Recently, I saw 4.1%! Where do these people get their info from? Just factor in the cost in your sell price. Itās seems reasonable to me that if you want to sell something on SNA: Do your research - most things unless theyāre totally hyped or rare or on pre-order, sell for 60-70% of their cheapest (discounted) retail at best Donāt say āAs newā when itās a year old and has no box! Include as many photos as possible Include warranty info and any invoices - you can redact any sensitive info and email/print them Communicate with each other by phone if necessary Donate! And just so weāre clearā¦ā¦PP fees in AUS are 2.6% plus a āfixed feeā of .30c! 5
Bengineer Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Shake that stick old man. What annoys me is people who say they are ok to use Paypal, and then it turns out they dont have it set up at all, they just have a login and try to use their Credit Card and get shocked when it costs them an additional Fee and/or gets held for 7 days. If you want to use Paypal, set it up to a bank account not a credit card, do the little authentication aspect, then you won't have to pay additional fees. 1

psychometrics1 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Neil, I agree with all you say with one exception. I am not prepared to sell using PayPal except F&F because it is possible for an unscrupulous buyer to have a change of mind and invent an excuse leading to a seller not being paid. So for me just cash, bank deposit cleared or F&F. If my SNA and eBay reputation is insufficient they can buy elsewhere. Happy New Year, Kym 14

I will never sell using PayPal unless I either personally know the buyer like yourself, or another very good forum mate whom I trust. Edit: typo Edited January 9, 2023 by rantan 6

Buyers using the platform to trial gear and then coming up with spurious reasons to return. Once, I took back a piece of HiFi because the buyer said it wasnāt working after much correspondence. He sent it back, basically in a āwooliesā bag. Needless to say it was trashed cosmetically but still worked fine! 1
JB82 Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 PayPal is a scam. To add insult to injury, it's the seller who has to pay for this 'protection', that's why some will ask you the buyer to pay the fee. I'm sure the fees were once around 4%, that would be where they're getting that figure from. Just don't use PayPal
April Snow Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) I don't have a problem with PayPal as they offer a service that protects one's credit card & I have used them as both a buyer and seller. I think it is up to the seller to dictate the terms of their sale and if a buyer does not like the sellers terms they do not have to make the purchase. Seems pretty simple to me I think these days sellers have more to risk than buyers as they can be scammed out of goods and the money as paypal will mostly favour the buyers side in the case of a dispute - even if that dispute is a scam. I had a friend that sold a luxury bag worth $7,000 and she took photos of the box and the bag before sending but the buyer said she only received an empty box (when she was sent the whole bag in the box) so my friend lost not only the bag but the 7k as well! Sad we live in a world like this I know ...... Edited January 11, 2023 by April Snow 10
