I err towards raising the grill frame for 2 reasons:

1. safer clearance from the driver, noting it has the phase plug protruding by some mm's

2. the port is partly covered by the bottom of the grill frame. The grill frame 'port' is the same size as the speaker port....so when it is raised, it will ensure even air flow.

That'll be what we do then  ;)

Lovely work being done on the cabinet work @Andrew Tilsley!

Two weeks "uninterrupted" in the workshop over the school holidays must have been fun.

I have been following the posts on your "diyAudio" forum thread with interest.

Surprised @MattyW by a few of the negative comments about the Lii Song drivers on the other forum - your reply, as to whether some of them had even heard them was spot on.

Given the considerable presence (and following) of the Lii products in both Canada and the US, if there is any "doubt" about the measurements which have been published have for any of the drivers, might it be worthwhile for Lii Song getting a tester in the US or Canada to run the measurements over the drivers?

No matter what measurements are made, however some  (like you and many others ) will love them no matter what, while others may have a very different position (no matter what measurements might show), and when it all comes down to it that is part of the fascination about hi fi, music and the gear which is made to reproduce it.

What the heck - you like the Lii drivers, you have a great relationship with the company, you have heard a lot of good gear and so know what you are looking for. Everything else is irrelevant.

Keep posting.

Yes, I suggested this to them yesterday though need to figure out a well established, respected testing house to suggest for them. Their drivers really are something else but always seem to be picked to death by people having a go at their measurements.

I had thought those on Facebook were the ASR crowd though it seems more widespread than that so they definitely have a problem needs to be solved if they want to grow their brand.  :(

Either way, even the prior Silver drivers are up with the best I’ve heard though Mike Lenehans latest creation is likely rather spectacular….. I do like a big solid speaker though and there’s something magical about a good full range driver. ;)

With 16mm MDF and trim, the grill frame is sitting flush. Cabinet not yet stained.

A slight delay to a Tuesday afternoon delivery. Just too much work to fit in today. Might even have my new AudioGD DI20HE in place by then. :)

It reminds me of The Lion Witch & Wardrobe - you could disappear into those speakers.

Congratulations on your vision and what looks like a very special project. Can’t wait to hear how they sound.

With zero burn in, the best fine detail I’ve ever heard and great imaging. Room filling sound only large drivers can deliver. Bass is less expressive than a back loaded horn but seems to have it there. Should improve with plenty of burn in

"Two fridges"?

They are certainly cool! And big.

I'm with @PKay. Can't wait to hear how they sound, and how that develops in the coming weeks and months.

Congratulations to @Andrew Tilsley on the build, and to you on being the first/one of the first to get a pair of Platinum 10s up and running..... especially a set of one off pair of speakers such as yours.

So far given no burn in, I’m incredibly impressed. Big, effortless sound and the reproduction of fine detail surpasses anything I’ve heard before. Bass is less and not as big sounding as my previous back loaded horns but that’s to be expected given there’s almost zero hours on them. Likewise I’ve retired my sub as I promised my wife I would. A very happy camper. I believe bass will fill in a bit with use. It's not just the drivers to burn in though also the Mundorf Angelique CAW wire, the EIZZ EZ-301 gold plated copper low mass binding posts won’t take long. Certainly less than drivers or the Mundorf wire.

If anything like the other Lii drivers they’ll change considerably with some time on them.

Please don’t make the mistake of not cranking them up and not playing demanding music even though it’ll sound rubbish. Some guys were saying the F15 take 100 or even 500 hours where my bass appeared at 50 ish hrs. I crank the crap out of them with big band and lots of Tool. Job done!

Very important to burn them in with a variety of music so the frequency range gets a workout, and with some "decent" (loud) volume to get the drivers moving.

Currently burning my DeVore O96's in and just completely ignoring the "turn it down" from my darling.

Exciting times Matty, enjoy 😁:thumb:

Actually, unlike previous Lii drivers which were incredibly rough prior to burn in…. Borderline unlistenable really, these have been stunning out of the box. I just hope there’s a bit more bass with burn in though I know things will change quite a bit yet.  :)

These are already quite stunning.

Yes, bass should improve as the drivers get more of a workout. Like I said, don't be afraid to give them volume at all the frequencies.

It will not happen overnight - but it will happen :thumb:😁

I must say Andrew has been wonderful to deal with throughout this and always an absolute gentleman. This build has turned out great.  My last ever pair of speakers. ;)

I just can’t stop listening. Sound just gorgeous.
