Dooges Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Further Information: A truly superb digital reference 100 watt per channel amplifier. No expense was spared in this ahead of its time amplifier (1989) JVC designed and built in Japan. Super A power, meaning, under most situations, the amplifiers operate in class A. To achieve such high performance, a well-designed using a large transformer power supply was employed and very high spec electrolytic capacitors. Thus the reason for its weight being 16kgs. Also ahead of its time are the optical and coax digital inputs. This enables using direct inputs from 'modern' CD/DVD/Blu-Ray players. Using 'DA converter direct' bypasses some signal processing, sending to the inputs of the power amps via a shorter path. On examining the published specs, it can be observed that Total Harmonic Distortion figures in the realm of .002% is achieved. While comparing this figure with modern stereo amplifiers, it will be concluded that this distortion is up to ten times less than some of today's amplifiers. One could argue such low distortion figures may be hard to notice, but the clarity of some musical instruments on fine recordings,, arguably, can indeed be noticed. Another feature of this amplifier is its phono input performance. It also has switchable MM and MC cartridge inputs. Modern phono cartridges (Ortofon etc) sound so good! At the time the AX-Z1010TN came on to the market its retail price was around $1,400. It did indeed command a premium price. This amplifier is an item many HiFi enthusiasts/collectors will want to have. 3
georgehifi Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Should be nice, I had the mate XL-Z1010 cd player PCM53 R2R dacs, built like a brick s***-****e sounded good. This is from the era when JVC made some top notch Japanese products. GLWTS Cheers George 1
Dooges Posted January 18, 2023 Author Posted January 18, 2023 Thanks for your positive comments George! I’ve had many JVC products over the years and do recall when that CD player was released. Their smartest or most successful product was their VHS recorders, which they very cleverly invented and licensed to over 200 companies. while Sony only licensed around six companies with their Betamax product. Meanwhile I’m hoping to get more interest in the AX-1010 amp with the significant price reduction. It really is a classic and unique stereo amp way ahead of its time. Cheers George Bill
