BRS Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Just finished my second low budget speaker project. Fostex FE83NV driver in a spiral horn using Fostex plans. 12mm ply with a satin polyurethane finish. Breaking them in but so far suprising considering the spend. 5
thejt Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 i need to look into this concept, is this a way to play with the geometry of the horn length so that the speaker is wide rather than tall or deep? thanks!

Its a great question. Unfortunately I am just building to the plans Fostex provided with the driver. Maybe when I retire and have more time, I might try to learn enclosure design. I have been looking for a book or two to read and would be open to suggestions

Have to admit I kind of like the novelty factor but I would never try to put these in the lounge room. Really enjoying the fruits of my labour. So much so, if just finished these and now looking for a 2 way build. It's hard to find something good that I can source locally. Maybe Paul Carmody's Classix II or Adelaide Speakers, Woodfox. 1

BRS Posted April 7, 2023 Author Posted April 7, 2023 (edited) I have spent a quite a bit of time looking at Troels designs and was ready to commit. Didn't realise the crossover specs were not visible/not provided. The specs for some of the older designs were avilable but most of them used discontinued drivers. The only way is to order from Jantzen Audio. The shipping was $600 AUD, more than a 3rd of the cost for drivers, crossover components, etc. A lot of time/effort has gone into these designs and I wouldn't be giving the specs away for free either. With conversion to AUD, I just can't justify this at the moment. Anyway. I just now ordered the Woodfox 822SQTLs kit from Ascension Adelaide Spealers. Edward was very helpful. Really ooking forward to experiencing the Ascension sound. Plan is to build cabnets out if solid timber( Glulam) or ply. Bit concerned with the Glulam as they are apparently somwhat moisture sensitive. Edited April 7, 2023 by BRS Spelling errors
