Saturday June 17th - 3pm to 8pm

Yes I'm announcing the June date for the Clubhouse GTG before the May date but for very good reason.

I wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible so those who are interested can plan to come along and not miss out. We will have a number of firsts and a very exciting and interesting list of high end HiFi components that will be on display for the first time in Queensland and when it comes to the speakers it will be for the first time other than at Sonic Purity in Mebourne. I have not included any pictures of the various components at this stage because this GTG has just been sorted, but will do in follow up posts. The details of the GTG are below the component list.

Amplification:

AudioNet Heisenberg Mono Blocks

Audionet WATT

Audionet SAM G2

Speakers:

Apertura Adamante

Apertura Edena Evolution

DAC & Streaming Modules.

Playback Designs MPD-8 w/ USB X

Playback Designs MPD-6 w/Streaming Module

Cables:

Argento interconnects and speaker cables

Date:

Saturday June 17th

From 3pm to 8pm.

Arundel, Gold Coast

Drinks and nibles will be available on the day. These GTGers while often show casing very interesting and occassionally, as is happening with this GTG, seldom seen hifi componets here in Queensland are squarely aimed at being fun enjoyable social occassions for those of us who enjoy high end HiFi.

We have three rooms to showcase these impressive components and will spend time in each room through out the day. Given the Gold Coast Clubhouse GTGers are run at our family home there will be limited spots available, so please PM me asap regarding coming along. As I get it sorted I will start to send out more event information along with our address in the next couple of weeks. I decided to announce this GTG as soon as it was confirmed what gear we would have here.

I look forward to hearing back from those who are interested in hearing some of the most stunning HiFi gear I have been lucky to hear so far. While few will have ever heard of, let alone heard in action, the Apertura brand of speakers I have been lucky to hear both models and I reckon they are a stunning speaker and quite different in an excllent way in their sound delivery compared to most other speakers I have previously heard, especially for their cost. But more on these speakers later including photo's.

Anyway enough rambling, please either call me or pm me once you have checked whether you can come along.

cheers,

Terry

Interesting indeed.  New Toys from three different manufacturers!  I'm in.

However... these follow up posts involving pictures.   When would they be likely to be showing up, exactly?

Interested to hear more on the Playback Designs gear too.  USB X device is quite new, yes?

Yes ... 🙂

A question John, when was the last time you visited the Gold Coast in the middle of winter? ...  apart from there being some great people here to mingle with and some exceptional hifi equipment to listen to chances are it will be quite pleasant temperaturewise. ... 😉

None too subtle Mr T.  You know I’m keen to visit.  It’s just an issue of ensuring the family are sorted out as well.  We did visit GC about 6 years in winter… it was very pleasant!

The next time I’m accused of being subtle will be a first. … 😉

In part I was just being a tease and reminding everyone who reads this from down in the cold bleak southern regions that winter is actually really quite pleasant in some parts of Australia. … 😎

Anyway back to Hifi chat.

As promised here are some pictures of the Apertura speakers we will have at the June GTG and for the first time outside of Melbourne.

These speakers are very impressive to say the least, especially at their price point, and I can't wait to hear them in our rooms.

If you are up this way and want to come along and hear the Apertura's or any other the other exceptional components we will have hooked up and playing at the June GTG please PM me soon as spots are limited for this GTG.

cheers,

Terry

As you can see below these speakers look quite different, their cabinet is off set, anyway it works and sounds very good.

I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to post in but here goes.

I had the good (or maybe bad for my wallet) fortune of hearing Terry's setup across all of his listening rooms. One of the interesting manufacturer's that he stocks is Waversa. They make a wide range of devices but the particular one that really impressed from their range is the Lan-isolator -EXT1.  This is a shiny little box that's maybe twice the size of a packet of cigarettes (remember those?). it is a passive Ethernet filter. It contains some sort of transformer (just guessing on that) but it is meant to passively filter electrical noise in the Ethernet stream. I also guess it might perform some sort of galvanic isolation. Maybe.

Anyway, I was able to have a listen to it in my system which at that point had an Etheregen and a SOTM-iSO7 lan filter. I popped the Waversa in line with the Etheregen and SOTM filter and there was a tad cleaner sound but nothing mind blowing. Then I took out the Etheregen and SOTM filter and put the LAn EXT1 in by itself. I was greeted with an open, detailed and dynamic sound with a wide soundstage. I tested the combinations back and forth to convince myself but the Waversa just created a much more effortless and open sound.

I also noted that on some older recording such as Charles Mingus "Mingus Ah Hum", on FLAC, there was some hiss that I couldn't hear with the Etheregen / SOTM. Now that's odd. I then did some reading and watched a YouTube video review and amazingly, the reviewers pretty much gave the same opinion on the device as i had experienced. On top of that, one reviewer was equally confused when they started to hear hiss on some older digital transfers. They went out and bought a record of the album they were listening to and compared it on a very high quality vinyl rig. Sure enough the hiss was there on the vinyl so it was in the master tape after all......

I think the Waversa gives a very open view on whatever you are streaming. It will allow everything to come through without editing, compressing or smoothing the sound. That doesn't mean it's harsh or makes things sound nasty. It just makes you realise that you might not be getting the whole picture in your setup with the gear you currently have. By itself, it offers to reduce the possible complexity of multiple filters / switches and other boxes that some people have combined to reach audio nirvana.

I have purchased a Waversa Lan EXT1 and how now ordered a Waversa SmartHub 3.0 which I believe is a very good compliment to the Lan EXT1. Can't wait to hear it all together in my system. So much for reducing the box count but it's all about getting the maximum enjoyment ;)

Waversa is a stunning brand and I use their network products at home, but there is more to them than just a networking specialty company. They make wonderful DACs, music servers, tube and solid state amps etc.

FEELING PRESSURE?

Yes its getting real close, on Saturday 17th from 3-8pm we will be hosting the next Gold Coast HiFi Clubhouse GTG featuring a very long list of previously unheard or seen Hifi components and speakers in Queensland.

There are still a couple of spots available for those who would like to hear some very special equipment. The first post on this topic has a list of the new to Queensland HiFi gear that will be being featured on the day.

No Pressure! ... 😉

Terry

Due to popular demand, we've extended this Saturday's GC Hifi Clubhouse GTG to include a second listening session on Sunday.

This is the only chance to hear the amazing Apertura speakers, Playback Designs DACs, and the AudioNote Heisenberg amps in QLD and we have two rooms of this stunning gear ready to be heard.

The second listening session on Sunday is between 12 noon and 4pm. If you couldn't make it on Saturday and would like to come Sunday, please give me a call on 0419 448 452 to confirm your attendance so we can organise catering. Numbers are limited so get on it.

cheers,

Terry

For those of you that are either coming along today or considering coming along tomorrow between 12pm and 4pm here are a couple of pictures of the two listening rooms and the systems we now have set up and are ready to go.

This weekend here on the Gold Coast will be the first and only time in Queensland that any of this stunning Hifi gear will be on display and be able to be heard in action. Being, as per the photos, the two pairs of Apertura speakers, PlayBack Designs DAC’s and several AudioNote amplifiers, including the $120k Heisenberg mono-blocks. Add to that the Antipodes K21 and Oladra music servers, Argento cables, the Vinius Pre-amp and a display featuring the PlayBack Designs Analogue to Digital converter in action along with a SME 15 TT with SME V arm, Kleos SL Cart and RCM Theriaa Mk 2 Phono stage plus the Degritter Record cleaner.

Something we have just decided to include is if you are coming along and you are into vinyl then bring one of your favourite records that you play often and know well, whether it is in perfect condition or has some crackles and pops and I will give it a clean in the recently released Mk2 Degritter. My bet is you will be pleasantly surprised at the improvement in SQ after it has been cleaned.

So if you are in have the time and would like to hear any of this top line Hifi gear in action please give me a call asap on 0419448452 to arrange your spot.

cheers,

Terry
