geevee12 Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Hello all I have for sale the abovementioned R to R machine. This unit was gifted to me about 1 year ago, completely inoperative. After a substantial amount of time, I was able to resurrect it and is now fully functional, with no known issues. The unit was thoroughly cleaned, new belts, all switches and controls lubricated. No noisy potentiometers etc. In addition, the problem with the PSU was rectified. The unit is in quite good condition. The face has a few minor marks as seen in the pictures. The timberwork is excellent, with no scratches or dings etc. The heads are in good condition, and the entire headblock has been cleaned. Please note that the only way that I could adjust the heads, was to play a tape that was recorded (supposedly) on this machine and adjust for maximum fidelity. As I do not have the necessary test equipment or test tapes, I cannot confirm that the heads are in alignment in absolute terms. I will have to leave this for the upcoming buyer. However, the unit does sound great. Unfortunately, I have no available space to accommodate. Happy to demonstrate for those that can travel to my place. Kind Regards George VK5ZG 2
Doctor Faustus Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 omg! This model Akai was my first reel to reel deck ! I was so happy to get this when I was 17 - purchased from Douglas HiFi --- A lot of fun ... a great little machine to start on a tape journey - much better sound than the cassette decks that came afterwards.
geevee12 Posted May 11, 2023 Author Posted May 11, 2023 Hi Doc. Yep, I'm sure it would bring back memories for a lot of people. It was actually quite therapeutic in restoring it, not to mention how surprised I was with the sound quality. Cheers George.
