Thank you for your excellent feedback on the A6.

Going OT but you will be better off getting a Gieseler USB Reinigen, see this thread (and we can continue discussing there).

Hopefully this means stock may arrive shortly on the east coast..  Can't wait for mine to arrive and try out various connection options:

1. A6 (internal SSD + DAC)>amp

2.  A6 (internal SSD)>old Audio Alchemy DAC>amp

3.  Rotel CD transport>A6 (internal DAC)>amp

Hoping the brains trust here might help me with something. I have had my DMP-A6 for around 2 weeks - love it. I’ve read a few things about people installing additional apps, and thought I’d have a go at installing Soundcloud, as I occasionally search it for interesting music. Well, downloading the Soundcloud ‘apk’ file (which I didn’t know was a thing) and loading it into the A6 was a breeze. I’ve got the Soundcloud app now within the Apps folder in the A6, however when I tap on it to open I receive a message that says “Soundcloud wont run without Google Play services which are not supported by your device”.  Any tips on what to do? Thanks in advance.

May I please ask

Can someone please provide a link for a 4tb ssd that is “fast” as someone earlier mentioned

Is this available from JB or Office works?

Or online only?

Seconly I have my music files stored on 2 different hard drives

See pictures

One is powered

One is not powered

Can either of these be just plugged into the Eversolo to provide the files ?or will the files have to be transferred from one of these across to the new SSD?

Cheers and thanks in advance

I don't know where the exclusive WA label for West Coast Hi Fi comes from?

Pat O'Brien at WAR Audio (Perth) was the first to get the A6 and Z8 DAC into WA.

He has his new consignment of A6's arriving next week. He also has Z8 DAC's in stock.

However, he does have an exclusive offer; if you buy a A6 from him he will give you a free 4TB internal SSD.

I suggest anyone interested should give him a call.

Hi Muri,

With regard to your existing hard drives, you did not mention if they are both 4TB. If you have a 4TB that is not powered they usually have a different processor which enables them to operate without additional power. I have my files on non-powered Toshiba Canvio 4TB drives, these are accessed by jRiver through my PC. There is always a lag when the drive is first being accessed through the PC, once the initial lag has happened it does not seem to do it again. My Lumin accesses the drive via ethernet, through the PC to the library files of jRiver. I have run DSD's files with no issue.

With regard to the Eversolo A6, I have plugged a non-powered 2TB Toshiba Canvio into the back USB, running DSD128 files direct and there was no lag at all.

From what I understand with SSD's, because they have no moving parts like the Toshiba's, 'their' speed per say are all the same. But the chips that provide the cache storage are what makes the difference. It used to be that Samsung Evo's were the fastest SSD's due to their internal circuits, this may still be the case. But, and I maybe wrong, the processor within the A6 is meant to be extremely quick and powerful for the work it has to do, therefore it should have it in spades to control a SSD that may not have the best circuitry like the Samsung Evo's. I doubt you would notice the difference between a top flight and an economy flight SSD. I also think, if you are someone who is concerned about the actual or perceived drive speed, you maybe better getting one from a company like PC Case Gear or PLE, where you can compare spec's easier online.

My plan is to have my files on an internal SSD within the A6 and 'back up' those files to an external HD, so if anything quirky happens I can get up and running again relatively easy. It is just a case of being a bit disciplined as the library grows.

I hope that helps a little to navigate the choices.

No problem at all, I did have a read on this thread regarding the Reinigen which does seem quiet interesting, I will have a look..

Thanks Andy

I will try plugging directly into the back USB slot and see what happens

This is my plan as well 😁

Just have to work out how to get these files from existing backup hardrives onto the new internal SSD once I’ve installed it

For anyone with a NAS, I am using smb shares and it is flawless (for me) so wont be using the SSD.  I was initially keen but the syncing of it seemed to be a pain when I’ve already got 2 NASs one for my back up.

Interesting as the specifications for the A6 states the following - "HDD Bay M.2 NVME 3.0 2280 protocol, up to 2TB".

I guess that perhaps this is a misprint in Eversolo's specs, a limit of the Android OS or would the drive have to be partitioned to realise its full capacity?

Anyhow if it does go that high it would be advantageous as that would almost store most of my current digital music collection on the internal 4TB drive rather than having to access it over the network from the NAS.  :)

Just remember, from memory because I don't have an A6 in front of me, the two usb's on the back are one input and one output.

Yes, the one at bottom is an output and the one above an input

Hi Alan,

You are correct the blurb does state 2TB, but this apparently was changed with a firmware update. Pat sold all his stock, including his demo, so he is waiting for the new stock arriving this week, to test out the new 4TB NVME's he has received.

Even if it did only take 2TB, to have that amount of music on board is a game changer. I have approximately 4,000 albums, about 30%  16/44.1, the rest are 24/96 or 192 and DSD flac files; and I am only utilising 1.64 TB!

Just received my DMP-A6 after six long weeks of waiting. Been an audiophile for 40 years (including owning a shop in high end audio equipment for 8 years,), must say I am very impressed by this device.

I only use the A6 as a streaming device, feeding the signal into my Gustard A26 dac. The A6 replaces my Ifi Zen Stream with Ifi Power Elite power supply.

Accompanying setup:: Densen DM10 integrated amp, Gustard A26 dac, Totem Signature One loudspeakers. I use a MIT Shotgun digital coax from streamer to dac, Straightwire Crescendo rca from dac to amp and Siltech SQ80 G3 speaker cable from amp to loudspeakers. Power cable to the A6 is Audioquest NRG Z3.

For now I can only give my first impressions. First half hour the sound was thin and two dimensional, after that everything improved rapidly. After an hour it already outshone my Ifi Zen Stream in the microdetail department. Regarding all other sound parameters, for now, it is a close call between Zen Stream and A6. I am a firm believer in burn in time, so I will leave the A6 24/7 on for the coming days. Software experience is very good, no problems untill now.

I will report back after a couple of days.

Thanks @Joost for your feedback regarding the DMP-A6, it’s great to get feedback from other users so that others can use this information as a great tool for their considerations if this is something they are interested in purchasing, which helps out our greater community.

Based on your feedback, it’s great that you have a had a positive experience with the Eversolo DMP-A6 thus far, I am also a believer of burning in equipment for a period of time which is the case for not only electronics, but also speakers.

It would be a great idea to leave the DMP-A6 on power for a period of time to allow it to get properly warmed up and ready for your judgment. I’ve had mine for just under a week and have in-fact left the unit on (at certain times) as I run the unit in (playing music) to continue the run in process. For me, it has certainly open up a little and is sounding much better with more time on it. I look forward to getting a few more hours on it then re-evaluate down the track but so far I have not had any issues at all and am very happy with the quality of sound produced by this wonderful piece of equipment.

Hope you enjoy yours too..

Regards,

Dom.

Are there any noise measurements available? The marketing blurb says ultra low noise, so was wondering what they considered low.

Thanks @Domza84. I know that burning in components is a much debated topic, but in my experience at least 100 hours of burn in is necessary (especially for loudspeakers) to come to a fair assessment. I will report back about the Dmp-A6, and will also compare it with the Gustard A26 as a standalone dac/renderer and the Zen Stream with Power Elite power supply.

Joost
