Thanks a lot I’m going to have to buy this now 😤

I hadn’t seriously considered this before (only really known about the unit a day) but the more I see, the more I think I need it. This CD ripping feature is a big attraction. I neglect my CD library more than my vinyl, even though the latter is more hassle. I stream mostly, so being able to stream as well as play CD rips on the one machine is very tempting. Not to mention it has a wayyyy better interface than my CXN v2. The screen is another very attractive feature of this Eversolo.

The ability to rip a CD is indeed a clever useful feature.

I have one of these drives for my laptop and they work really well;

https://www.ple.com.au/Products/618460/lg-gp60nb50-slim-external-usb20-dvd-writer

I believe the ripping process only works with the optionally fitted internal SSD drive. I have not tested whether you can utilise the two usb's, to connect an external hard drive and a portable optical drive and rip to the external HD?

Depending on the size of your CD collection the M.2 SSD pricing can be a deterrent. Currently the cheapest Gen 3 4TB M.2 runs at around $650!

A firmware update may change that to Gen 4, which are more commonplace and therefore cheaper, starting at $350.

I previously posted about good software to rip one's library to an external portable drive, which is what I do. I have a 4TB Toshiba USB HD and I am 50% through ripping my library, having ripped 2,972 albums so far and taken up 1.9 TB.

Be aware that the two USB 3's on the A-6 are running at two different voltages. If you plug in a flash drive (say, a 125GB thumb drive), the designated USB input will run it no problem. However when you plug in a USB powered 2TB or 4TB, unless it has it's own power supply, it will be seen by the A-6, but it will drop out because the output voltage is only 3.5v.

In that instance you can use the the other USB 3 connector, which says USB Out (all USB connectors are in/out) which runs at 5.5v and it will run perfectly, as mine does.

Haha I think I have the same one! It looks very much alike and is a LG, I just don’t know the model off hand.

I read it here or elsewhere that the hdd in the a6 is unable to be used for storage so you’re probably right re: needing to use a ssd. I don’t think I’ve come across any mention of connecting a drive to save to, only for playback.

That LG is a great little unit, it evens takes archival disc, which are larger capacity cd's, that have some coating on them for businesses and museums to protect data for 150 years!  I can just imagine, "now where did I put that disc, it was on my desk yesterday" 🤣

To clarify, the small drive contained within the A6 circuitry is purely for its own compute use. It is effectively a master boot disc to enable it to function well and to process firmware updates.

I do not connect an external drive and utilise the A-6 for the ripping. I use the software I previously mentioned (EZ CD Audio Converter and Audio Ranger for tidying up metadata) on my desktop pc. That way I have a library on a portable drive, I can add or subtract albums easily, take my drive to a friends house and plug in to their A-6 or any other streamer that has a usb.

I also back up the drive using free syncing software.

The Luxman NT-07 streamer has been rolled out in Japan...will probably cost around $10K+ here (a stylish device but can't see how it can compete with the new NAD streamer that also runs Dirac).

Back on topic: very disappointing to see the firmware upgrades adding frustration to what initially seemed like an excellent product - what a valuable discussion/thread this has become.

Just to follow up - officially the Luxman will sell for AUD$11,499 when released.

Just realised they have changed this software, I believe it is still free but you have to sign up and create an account.

I have not checked this update as yet, it has been taken over by another company so the rules may have changed, great software nonetheless.

Well, good news for me: I hooked up an LG DVD/CD drive to the top usb port, and it immediately loaded my CD and sourced the artwork and info. There is a small rip icon towards the top left. Click on that and very simply rip it directly to the A6. It does indeed have 30 something gig of of space you can rip to before needing an extra SSD. I’m running a Roon rock via Nuc, and connected a USBC drive I had handy and easily changed the path from the A6 and ripped to there. Added the paths in Roon to the drive and A6 and seamless playback. One strange thing though. In Roon the Roon rock stored tracks show all artwork, track names, artist and even the info/reviews you normally find in Roon, whereas the rips to the A6 show artworks and track names but not artist name or info. Maybe that can be worked out? Either way, I’ll be ripping via A6 and storing on my rock and loving it! See pics:

Hi, had my A6 a few days, but haven’t had a whole lot of quality time with it yet. One thing I’ve noticed which I haven’t seen mentioned, is there doesn’t seem to be any volume levelling of mixed/shuffled playlists. Seems to apply to most apps. I’ve tried Tidal, Apple Music and the internal library player. I can’t find an option in any settings. Am I missing something? Seems a pretty basic feature to be missing.

Are there any Eversolo users that were using Airplay for Apple Music and are now using Apple Music natively on the Eversolo?

Interested to hear if there are any audible improvements.

Apple Music is great on the Apple TV for videos and Atmos tracks and I want to start using it for 2ch music but just cant get past how much I hate using my phone or iPad as a streaming device, not just a remote.

the native app does hi res whereas airplay is limited to a lower resolution. A theoretical improvement, will depend if your ears can hear the difference! The big advantage is not having to dedicate a device to airplay ie you can walk out with it. Note the native app does not display album art in the same way as tidal or qobuz as it is technically casting, the album art is smaller on the screen

yeh thanks the Airplay limitations is definitely the other factor considering my apple devices are Apple 2 compliant and this apparently reduces any Airplay stream to 256kpbs when streaming to an Apple Airplay 2 compliant streamer like the Eversolo which is even worse.

Airplay 2 itself is the limitation. The complexities of streaming via Airplay 2 is widely discussed on the net, including on AS. Chris Conniker wrote a great piece on this.

I  myself use shairport sync to stream Apple Music via AirPlay 1 to my Music Player Daemon Linux Device and it is lossless - CD Quality. I know this because shairport sync won’t play anything less than cd quality. It’s not hi res but the music I listen too isn’t recorded any higher than cd quality

Just got one of these yesterday. Loving it so far. Especially having 2 ways to get lossless and hi res Apple Music. Via the internal app and the usb c audio input at the back. This usb c port is awesome. No connector kit needed. Just plug in iPad with usb c cable and away you go.

Good one, I’d be interested in the results of an A, B, C test between the internal app, the usb C and airplay 2  playing the same music, which one sounds better to you?

Both internal app and usb c are a wash. Can't tell them apart. But both are better than AirPlay 2 which limit apple Music to 256 AAC. Lossless sounds better to me. Always has. Even back when it was playing the cd vs a 256 AAC rip, the rip always sounded "thin" to me.

Hi res.......that's another story. I'm not so sure about 24/192.

From 9:55  His comments about A6 “Treble area sounded a little more, I heard more that hash grain and noise, the treble wasn’t as refine or smooth ,it was just a little more digital sounding!”

He isn't comparing apples with apples. He is comparing a streamer in the A8 price range, with the base model A6, not even the Master Edition that has a lot more refinement.

For the people asking about AirPlay it’s simple, AirPlay cuts out when you play hi res songs.

It happened to me a lot until I worked it out and changed to tidal connect. Never happened again.

With the A6, A6ME and A8 on the market , it is going to be a difficult time for other manufacturers.

Does the ripping feature works only from OTG or also from coaxial/ optical from a CD transport.  I'm not sure how Good it would be with an external drive
