Hey there,

It’s my birthday, I’m in Sydney tomorrow and Saturday, I’m hoping to find some stores with some interesting speakers to listen to. This might be a bad decision for my wallet, but why not hey!

Any suggestions?

I’ve never listened to big horns, good compression drivers or OB’s in particular.

I'm a DIY kinda guy, but easiest way to hear new styles of speakers is stores usually.

Cheers!

Depending on your time, budget and location:

Close to the city:

Chatswood: minidisc, great customer service. Only head fi.

Mascot: Audio Solutions, friendly team. they have mid to high end hifi
Marrickville: Apollo HiFi Small shop, very cramped. friendly staff. Marantz and mid hifi.

Newtown: Addicted to Audio: Great head fi selection. Their shop mainly has Naim and Focal equipment. Another favourite of mine.

Leichhardt: Audio Connection. High end, depending on who you talk too, can be friendly.

North West of Sydney

Lifestyle Parramatta (my favourite) staff isn't pushy, great selection mid to high end too

Eastwood Hifi: Mid fi. Small selection, great prices staff is friendly.

Castle Hill: Sydney Hifi, great shop, another favourite of mine. Great selection of high end equipment.

North of Sydney

Krispyaudio, Cameron lurks around here. Love his customer service, great little boutique hifi shop. High end equipment.

Lane Cove: Lenwallis AUdio (also a fav of mine). Friendly staff and great product page.

Check out their websites before you go. I've spent lots off $$ at most of them.

Awesome reply. Thanks!

yes. The wallet is always at risk. But I generally try to diy a version of something I like. So less risk to cash, more risk to time and effort.

So ... really, you're gonna waste their time bcoz you ain't gonna actually buy anything - you're just going to collect some ideas (for subsequent DIY)?

Gotta get my amplifiers and DACS somewhere. I’ve bought and will likely buy again commercial speakers. I “generally” DIY speakers, but some are too good or too elaborate for me to try and DIY.
But yes, it would seem by your definition I’m definitely wasting their time.

Though having looked through a number of the above businesses sites, I actually haven’t really found any signs of the speaker types I want to listen to, so I likely won’t be “wasting” their time.

Audio Connection in Leichhardt, from my experience, has the most diverse range of high end speakers.
