Post-1964 updated version of the popular Cadet amplifier, comprising a preamp and a power amplifier combination, connected by an umbilical cord. I’ve had it for many years with the intention of restoring it one day, but that hasn’t transpired. It comes with a copy of an informative 1990s UK article on restoring these amps, which initially triggered my interest.

Other than the power cord and the heatshrink sleeve holding the umbilical plug together, all parts appear to be original. The three (now rare) Brimar ECC807 valves in the preamp still look fresh and are reputed to be very durable in this application. Should they need replacing, the restoration article details how to reconfigure the valve socket connections to take ECC 83s. Power valves are ECL 86s. The plug-in phono stage (not shown) has a gold finish, which I believe identifies it as intended for ceramic cartridges.

The unit is untested, and has never been powered up on my watch. Cosmetic appearance is very good for its age: the timber case and front panel have some minor marks, which are accentuated by flash in the photos.1Front1.thumb.jpeg.8a10cfad3fc60c8f87afe80c80f155ff.jpeg2Front2.thumb.jpeg.8feec03e1daa227c72c9f07094b7ad6f.jpeg3Pretop.thumb.JPG.fe57c703e870c5a4b95f2f6ddcf9b4b5.JPG4PreBottom.thumb.JPG.0f1399ae6f442e29025874f3b0f956cb.JPG5Pwrtop.thumb.JPG.d35a87fae3815f66ac353876e5184d29.JPG6PwrBottom.thumb.JPG.851e5d780697982877a04cda29267189.JPG7Rear.thumb.jpeg.0e69eed4cd5ba8b0a666188d9b669e7d.jpeg8Top.thumb.jpeg.b2efb54e93ae367de853384086f10bcf.jpeg

Hi, I have an identical amp which I bought from new in 1967. I note that you have an article on restoring the amp. Would it be possible to get a digital copy of the article ? Naturally I would pay for any expenses you may incur. All the best, Richard
