alistairm Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Have has these refurbed after a decade or more of abuse. They’re amazing. Not ideally represented sitting on the floor, but probably a more up market front end than would be customary for them. And they’re terrific. I hope all your Sunday afternoons are panning out 10
buddyev Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 (edited) that’s quite a thing for small speakers to be unembarrassed in that room! I’ve just taken a pair of B&W 805 d3 out of my music system to compare with some Proac 1 sc which I had wasting away in a TV system. It’s a small room and they’re supported by 2 small subs - they really are great. In fact the golden-eared royalty - @andyr, @ittaku, and @djb - who came around for a listen all preferred the Proacs. Well integrated subs and convolution filters in Roon (thanks to Con) level the playing field between current model and 25 year old speakers. Amazing. It’s a cliche but it is quite shocking how they escape the boxes - at the reasonable volumes I listen at, anyway - and just disappear in the room. I am thinking about a pair of Proac d2 - I wonder if you’ve ever had the opportunity to compare yours with the 1sc? Edited June 4, 2023 by buddyev 2
alistairm Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 That's a very charming room. I have spent heaps of time with both the 1SC and the Response D2 (and also the Tabletttes and Response 3). They all have the same house signature, but the D2 and 3 have more in common with each other than the Tablette and 1SC. Without taking anything away from the 1SC, which are terrific, I think you'll find the D2 a significant step up in presence and soundstage from the 1SC. 1
Keith_W Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 Whether you like the bigger ProAc's or the smaller ones is a matter of preference. For me, my favourites are the original Tablette and Tablette Signatures, and the 1, 1S, and 1SC. And also the larger Response 3 and Response 5's. I haven't had the opportunity to listen to their latest designs yet, because I don't know anybody who owns them. 1

Con did the convolution filters for the Proacs a while ago so we could compare them with my B&Ws. I’ve had them for years on a Weston amp in another system and loved them - but on the serious power of the magtech they are just wonderful. 1

All Proacs definitely benefit from solid power, in my experience. They are not "hard to drive", but not easy either.

alistairm Posted June 6, 2023 Author Posted June 6, 2023 Probably not the classic match, but they went okay with the Dartzeels for anyone wondering.
