I'm being a bit slack here by not chasing these up myself but I thought I'd just ask about shops in Melbourne around the CBD.

I'm going to be in Melb for 3 days late next week and then ducking up to Rutherglen for a wedding and a knees up on the foreshore of Lake Mulwala and then back to Bleak City for another day and night so I want to ditch the Handbrake for a few hours and have a sticky in a shop somewhere. I'll be staying in Little Bourke St+Swanston and I know where CAV is and I can walk there and will if nothing else pops up but is there any other places worth visiting that are close at hand?

Lee,

I drive past Audiophile every day on the way home from work.

519 Brunswick Street
North Fiztroy, 3068
Victoria. Australia
.

Only a short tram ride form the CBD. But, Further than CAV. There's also a store in Docklands called Stereophonic. Not been in there personally.

Worth seeing victor at stereophonic, great guy. Easy to catch a tram to Harbour Town.

I'm not from Melbourne but I couldn't agree more. He is a real gentleman.

Another store with a great rep is Tivoli and James ( an SNA member ) is one of the best people on the planet. Pity I haven't yet been there

Yes, Audiophile. Everyone has to experience Nick at least once... what a character!

Catch a Harbourtown tram down Bourke St to Stereophonic. Well worth a visit. In fact, all of the aforementioned stores are readily accessible by tram.

+1. Pretty sure I bought (long time ago) my Sonus fabers from James, lovely guy. I spent part of the audition trying to comfort my infant son, and James calmed him by playing some Josh Rouse. It was so striking that I bought the CD!

You need to stay longer and persuade some friendly melbourne SNA members to invite you round to listen to their gear

Lol Trev, yeah I do don't I. I'd like to hear that Magtech of yours that's for sure.

Thanks for the advice on stores, that's the beauty of Melbourne isn't it: The Trams. I'll grab the addresses off the net and I should be good to go.

My daughters flatting in Johnston St Fitzroy so the Brunswick St stores on the agenda for sure, thanks for that Tim(still haven't found the 4x 4 redgum your looking for but I'm still looking).

Stereophonic at Docklands sounds like the go too, the Handbrake likes that area so I can probably do a runner there pretty easily.

If you make it to Tivoli, then I'm about 2k away if you want to listen to the Magtech

I'd love too but times going to be the problem on this trip I'm afraid plus I wouldn't want to disturb your working day.

I had a great half day with Victor when I was in Melbourne last time. I had him moving speakers around and swapping sorces and amps and he didn't grumble once. He just seemed to enjoy listening the way I did.

Don't forget Johnson st. Fitzroy.. Soundreference and the man in the Brown suit "Damian".

Luc, looks as if u might be streched for time but most of the stores are situated very favourably to transport.

Have a pleasant trip..cheers Frank.

He's the one on ebay isn't he. I'll stick to the other ones at the moment as if I walked in there and saw black Sansui's under a pile...well needless to say I'd be a gonna.

I want to look at amp options for the Linn I've picked up too.
