Hi all, I am upgrading my projector and want a sanity check on zoom and whether its good or bad.

Given room restraints and a set screen size which I have installed, I need to confirm that a wide zoom of 1.80x is a good or bad thing?

ATM I have an aging Epson 3600 projecting onto the screen and I have the manual zoom maxed out and as a 1080p image it looks fine for the viewing seat..

Understand that a 1x zoom would be ideal but want to know if 1.80x would be ok.

Screenshot of a projector with my requirements attached, thanks.

Having the projector as close as possible to the screen for a given image size will give maximum brightness. Having the projector as far as possible from the screen for the same image size will give a small increase in contrast. Apart from that, if the projector has decent optics, zoom will have minimal affect on the image.

Hi @Quark, thanks, that’s the exact type of explanation I was after.

another stupid question if you don’t mind, when you zoom an image to say 1.8, does it make the actual pixels when they land on the screen 1.8 times larger, or unrelated?

Pixel size is directly related to screen/image size. A larger screen/image has the same number of pixels as a smaller screen/image - therefore the larger one must have larger pixels. You're unlikely to see individual pixels from a 4K projector while seated at any sensible viewing distance.

Thanks, makes sense once it's explained well. Appreciate the time.
