Have a friend who wants some headphones for his iPod.

He was going to buy DrDre which I put a quick stop to.

Any ideas?

I asked him what his budget was and he said he didn't have one, little does he know what he's saying lol.

Cheers

Tell him not to bother.

iPod won't drive them?

You would need to make sure it can. I do however feel that the stated price bracket is a bit of an overspend on phones for an iPod.

The HD-238s are amazingly good for the price. They will satisfy.

Some headphones like the B&W p7 are designed for ipod/iphone.

If' he's dropping that kind of coin on 'phones for an ipod, he might as well spend $250 on the cans and another $200 on an amp for it, and carry the whole lot around.

YMMV, but $4-500 is a lot of overspend for a set of iphone cans.

honestly get him to go try some of these headphones made for an iPod/iphone, he might actually be quite impressed with whats out there designed just for this use. will an amp bring gains ? again get him to work this out.

The Sennheiser Momentum"over ear" are very stylish looking and are around  350 to 400 bucks. They are low impedance as they are actually designed with portable players in mind. They have 2 cables supplied. One with an in line Mic and controls for an IPhone and a normal cable. I am not sure if the in line controls also work with an IPod Available in Black, Black with Red stitching and Brown. Pretty upmarket and sound really good. No amp required.

exactly this is just the thing am talking about ! most makers have upmarket headphones designed with iPod and iPhone in mind :) the B&W P7 is another I mentioned. also worth checking out the NAD hs50. will come down to the sound character chasing but there are certainly some nice headphones out there for the money !

If he is in Melbourne, get him to go into Addicted to Audio and try something out.

Better than us suggesting all sort of things which might or might not suit.

I agree, send him off to Addicted to Audio. Plenty of headphones and headphone amp's to test out.

Yea but they are quite large 09imm021.jpg

haha the jecklin floats ... owned a pair myself back in the 90s. probably the best electrostats around, akin to a pair of electrostatic panels in front of your ears...about as close have had a pair of headphones that sounded like speakers....but price back then was $2k ! goodness knows what they'd cost to buy today.... :D

nice find :)
