Guest yamaha_man Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Have a friend who wants some headphones for his iPod. He was going to buy DrDre which I put a quick stop to. Any ideas? I asked him what his budget was and he said he didn't have one, little does he know what he's saying lol. Cheers

New Sensations Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The way I see it the main contenders are Sennheiser Momentum and V-Moda M100. 1
wolster Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 My recommendation would be Hifiman RE-400s if your mate wants canal phones.

Catostylus Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Over ear are desired. In that case: http://headphones.com.au/psingle?productID=420 These work very well with my Sony Discman and Cowon iAudio 5 here at work.

Guest yamaha_man Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Tell him not to bother. iPod won't drive them?
Catostylus Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 iPod won't drive them? You would need to make sure it can. I do however feel that the stated price bracket is a bit of an overspend on phones for an iPod. The HD-238s are amazingly good for the price. They will satisfy.

Brendo09 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) If' he's dropping that kind of coin on 'phones for an ipod, he might as well spend $250 on the cans and another $200 on an amp for it, and carry the whole lot around. YMMV, but $4-500 is a lot of overspend for a set of iphone cans. Edited December 2, 2013 by Brendo09 1

twwen2 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Koss KSC75: Best bang for buck headphones around at $20.
betty boop Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) I'll let him know, cheers. honestly get him to go try some of these headphones made for an iPod/iphone, he might actually be quite impressed with whats out there designed just for this use. will an amp bring gains ? again get him to work this out. Saxon Hall Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The Sennheiser Momentum"over ear" are very stylish looking and are around 350 to 400 bucks. They are low impedance as they are actually designed with portable players in mind. They have 2 cables supplied. One with an in line Mic and controls for an IPhone and a normal cable. I am not sure if the in line controls also work with an IPod Available in Black, Black with Red stitching and Brown. Pretty upmarket and sound really good. No amp required. 1

rx79ez08 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 If he is in Melbourne, get him to go into Addicted to Audio and try something out. Better than us suggesting all sort of things which might or might not suit. 2

betty boop Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Yea but they are quite large haha the jecklin floats ... owned a pair myself back in the 90s. probably the best electrostats around, akin to a pair of electrostatic panels in front of your ears...about as close have had a pair of headphones that sounded like speakers....but price back then was $2k ! goodness knows what they'd cost to buy today.... nice find
