Further Information

Micromega Professional Solo-R CD Player/Recorder.

A pretty rare unit that I can't find much about online. It is in excellent cosmetic condition and is working pretty well (more details on operating condition further down).

When I got this unit it was not reading discs but a spare laser was supplied. I installed this and got it reading discs and playing again.
About two minutes after I got it working, it was sitting on the bench with the lid off, playing, when out of nowhere smoke started pouring out of the top along with a hissing sound. As dramatic as this was, it was just the X2 filter capacitors failing within the IEC power socket. It's a multi voltage unit and the voltage adjustment, power inlet, fuses and filter is built into one module. I replaced this complete unit with a brand new one and it's fine now.

Sound quality is excellent. I've played through many of my CD's without an issue, I loaned it to a friend to have a listen to and he mentioned it didn't read a couple of his CD's but I wasn't able to find out which ones. I personally haven't seen it do this so I think it would be a rare occurrence.

I've recorded a few CD's on it as well and it works fine there. It is very picky with what blank CD's it reads though. Any of my modern Audio CD-R's it refused to load. I had a quantity of just regular computer CD-R's and it was able to read these. It would occasionally just not read a few of the CD's of the same brand but would read some others of the same brand, not entirely sure why it was selective like this. Once a CD loaded, it records fine and was able to finalise the disc. I tested playback in another CD player and it was fine. An unusual side effect of finalising the disc was that when you put that disc back into the Micromega, it showed as a blank disc again. Some other discs I recorded but didn't finalise load and show the TOC and play as expected. I don't know if this is normal behaviour or not, there's no documentation that I can find about how to run this thing, I was just figuring it out as I went along.

At this stage due to the weight of the unit I'd prefer local pickup from Bathurst NSW. Audition is available. Any further questions, feel free to ask.
