This is how I justify price and especially to wife, I started subscription around July so my tax return pays for it each year.

Yes I'm similar.. it will be a tax deduction. Still, at $1300 odd $ to buy it outright, i'm still auditioning it. Finding the Tidal component is really lacking a lot of features I'd like. Soundwise it's quite nice though.

PIty Roon isn't a good buy for anyone due to the high price.

yeh I think it looks a nice bit of software but there's no way I can justify the ridiculous price of its monthly subscription.  I'd pay $100-200 for an outright license but no way in hell im paying $800.

I have been using this unit for sometime now. Coming from the CA CXN V2 there is definitely a difference. The sound is cleaner and the background is much darker. I like it very much.

The one feature I am still looking for is the "Deezer Connect" option.

Enjoy

I've got the A6 ME with pd creative power supply. It's a very nice unit and after several months became quite musical. The 1 plus over the A8 for me is it's size. I couldn't fit the a8 into my system but if I had my time again, I'd probably go with the A8. There's a few owners who went through a6, a6me and a8 and went back to the a6 me as they say it's more detailed and slightly more exciting. In my setup the a6me with power supply is very warm. Others say the a8 has a wider sound stage.

Pleasure. For me, there's been no problem or issue around sound stage. My a6 ME has a very 3D sound to it and can sound huge with the right tracks. I don't think I could have lived with the unit if I'd not upgraded the power supply. It was NOT to my taste at all until the power supply upgrade.

Interesting conclusion.  There are quite a few people on the Zidoo Eversolo forum who are adamant, and vocal, that upgrading the power supply on any of the Eversolo is a waste of time.

waste of time or simply not worth the effort for the return and the voiding of warranty?

Well there's those that also say cables make no difference.. The earth is flat no matter what you tell some people.

If I'd known the a8 was 2 weeks away, I would not have bought the A6 ME. By the time I added the power supply, the A8 on last week's special , was at a similar price. However, I didn't have a crystal ball and I've enjoyed the A6 ME for quite a while now.

like you I’m wondering which one?

I also don’t need it’s DAC or pre features.

If you're not going to use the superb DAC inside the A6ME or the A8 then why would you get anything other than the base A6?

It may sound better than a dCS stack. But I can't get Bluetooth to work nor the QR code to download the control app. Returned and refunded tomorrow.

Bad luck re A8 control app. I use an A8 in my study system and it took a while with cable choices to get the preamp to sound reasonable. But the streamer and app were always great. I have added a S/H MF pre and the sound is really good. But obviously not at dCS stack levels. Mind you I still like the BlueSound N130…

Maybe Bluesound might be the way to go for me Kym (Vault 2i?). A quirk of the A8 is that a network is required for the phone app to work (and other functions). No network then no control app. I'm using my iPhone as the connectivity point and the A8 isn't working with this at all. The phone and A8 must be connected to the same network (unlike, for example, the SVS sub app which works on Bluetooth). The A8 was primarily going to be used for ripping my cd collection and as a library with a DAC. Occasional BT streaming from my phone using AptX for background tunes. Streaming services are a distant third in priority.

I have managed to rip a few cd's to the A8 but the unit doesn't provide track, album info or ability to add cover art.

I've got an a6 ME with pd creative power supply and a Node n130 with similar upgrade. Got to say the Node is still a very nice machine. The a6 is more detailed but the Node is still nice to listen to and has a musical charm.

So you don't have internet and wifi in the house? I wouldn't  call the need for network for phone to talk to A8 as a quirk. It is obviously in it's design. Personally I couldn't conceive that one would use a streamer without a network. I'll try my blueos  via bluetooth and see if  it talks to my Node. Eversolo also has bluetooth input so I'll try that too. There is a whole new range of bluesound products hitting the market now. The Node Icon is the way I'd go and add an external solid state drive in your case. Ripping I would always so via a computer and copy files to the drive. Personally I'd give the vault a miss as the internal Dacs have gotten much better since then. You could run a Node and do a power supply upgrade such as PD Creative for an upgrade in the sound from switchmode to linear. This is a great upgrade. A friend has just moved from his Vault 2 to an Eversolo A8 and the sound improvement is very noticeable.

More so that using a phone hotspot is not an option. A phone hotspot via wi fi is all that is needed for our streaming services (Amazon, Netflix), our phone speed is good and we have 120 GB a month. The A8 and phone will wi fi pair but functionality appears impaired as the A8 and iPhone are not connected to a common network. For example the SVS sub control app doesn't require an active network connection to work, the phone app and subs talk directly to each other. Thanks for the advice re the Bluesound products.

And I could rip from computer and then transfer to the A8. I have most of my albums in iTunes (did that 15 years ago) but back in the day computer audio was not that serious and storage relatively expensive compared to now so they are in mp3 quality. I really only use that library to transfer on to the phone for use in the car.

working on it...

I have  previous gen node from blue sound not sure on newer, but am pretty sure it needs a WiFi network to share with iPhone and iPad use with it. Am getting an a8 hoping all is good with it and looking forward to seeing how compares with the blue sound node 🙂
