Jamie Longmire Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 (edited) I’m looking for general info on the Technics CD-4 Quadraphonic system. if there are any other enthusiasts who own or have knowledge about them Are they any good? Where can I get one repaired in Sydney? What their resale value is? etc Edited November 6, 2023 by Jamie Longmire Wrong brand name
audiofeline Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 HiFi Engine might have the user and service manual for your components. An item of that age would probably need/benefit from capacitors being replaced (they have an age limit), this is a common repair. It's had to give an idea of resale value without giving the specific model number(s). Ebay/Gumtree/etc can give you an idea (but don't be mislead by listings that have unrealistic high values that don't sell). There is a sticky at the top of this forum with recommended/suggested repairers. 1
Jamie Longmire Posted November 6, 2023 Author Posted November 6, 2023 I actually have to rename the title as it is not a TEAC but a Technics CD-4 Quadraphonics system Model: SS-1200 I have all the original documentation including brochures, manuals, warranty cards and purchace receipts.

audiofeline Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 You have quite a time capsule from the early 70's. CD-4 required a high-quality cart with Shibata stylus shape. Many CD-4 records have had the high-freq rear channel info removed by playing with inferior styli. The quality of the system you have would depend on your frame of reference. I would guess that it would have limitations of many systems of it's day, and a high quality 2-channel system will be much more enjoyable. Still, there are a few 4-channel enthusiasts out there who would be quite interested in your system. There is a bit of info on CD-4 on the web, these will get you started... https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/forums/discrete-lp-formats-cd-4-ud-4.22/ https://www.petervis.com/record_players_and_turntables/cd-4-quadraphonic/cd-4-quadraphonic.html 2 1

I have, just now, learned so much. I'll come back in a bit once I have read through your links. best, Jamie 1

I'll come back in a bit once I have read through your links. best, Jamie Hi there, I know a little on these, including on the cartridge used, which is quite sought after - the Panasonic EPC 451c. These Technics quadraphonic systems used a strain gauge phono cartridge, which sound excellent if set up properly. I created a page here on SNA discussing my own experiments with one of these cartridges. Those console systems sound quite good, but resale is a bit hit and miss because only a small band of collectors would appreciate them. If it has the original cartridge this can be worth something. Can I ask, what exactly is wrong with your system? 1
