That was my worst Womad experience.Colin, who oversees the artists signings, told me Cesaria was in hospital in either Sydney or Melbourne due to a stroke.I was upset over this sad news. That news and the heatwave spoiled my Womad experience that year.Coincidentally, that's the only Womad I've been to (17 now) where all the weekend passes sold out.I'd like to think Cesaria was responsible.

She underwent heart surgery in Paris the following May and I was hopeful she would return one day.I've wanted to see her live since '99.

When she passed away, the President of the Cape Verde Islands declared 3 days of national mourning. A nice touch I thought.

Currently having a geography lesson.  This place is somewhere in the world, must be world music.

Mixed opinion on first listen.

Sufjan Stevens takes a while to acclimatise TDD - give it a few more spins.

You've inspired me to give this a spin :)

Interesting - I was giving this album a spin a few nights ago

give it a few more spins.

I'll be doing that.  But you know how on first listen a record sounds like other bands?  This comes across as music by someone who really likes the Reindeer Section.

99.99% of music sounds like that. The trick is to find the 0.01% that sound just like themselves. Tiny glittering needles in a very big stack of hay.

Did I tell you that I like being pricked? Especially when I'm not ready for it.

ahah Justin Adams! I've had this release for many years, it's on rotation when we drive across to Womadelaide.

Had the good fortune to chat to him at a cafe in Gouger St, Adelaide (when he appeared with Juldeh Camara)

Even caught him years back at Womadelaide when Jah Wobble was there! Also with Robert Plant in Melbourne last year.

Latest Songlines has a review of Imed Alibi with Justin backing on ever distinctive guitar

looks very promising, hard to keep up with Justin's many projects, know of any others?

Yep, got that one too! Would you believe one of Les Triaboliques is Lu Edmonds,

ex The Damned and world music pioneers 3 Mustaphas 3,

caught him with John Lydon in Public Image at the Palace, Melbourne last year (another music venue sadly now recently closed, saw James Brown and Kraftwerk there, ah memories!)

Justin's also on an Israeli female singer's album, forgotten her name, I scored it as a subscription freebie

with Songlines mag.

Just listened to a track from this album on Youtube,Dave.Has an Afro beat sound to it but the info is in Portuguese.Brazilian outfit? I like the cover art too.

Yeah, from Brazil. In the end it was a bit too polished for my taste, but fun while it lasted. I like the cover too, that's what grabbed me. A cool idea to lay topographic lines over the primitive looking profiles.

Last nights listens were selected from and inspired by the latest experimedia newsletter in my inbox. They have lots of fascinating stuff that I can't afford
