Geoffms Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Hi, My dad has some hearing loss and wears hearing aids - my Mum has no hearing loss (we're in Australia). They have just purchased a Sony A80K smart TV and have a HT-A3000 soundbar hdmi connected. Question is - Can any recommend over ear headphones (preferably under $200au or even under $100au would be good too) that Dad can wear so that he can hear the TV but at the same time not affect the normal TV volume for Mum? Preferrable the headphones would be bluetooth, but whether those would work correctly or whether the h/phones need to be wired connected to the TV jack (but I think that might stop TV volume from TV for Mum - but not sure) Thanks for any recommendations and/or help.
Neo Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 (edited) Wouldn’t bother with anything else, Sennheiser have been doing this line for a long time. Just a bit pricey for them. - under $200au is more affordable.

What you really need is integration, so these headphones will work well. Lip sync is the main issue and ideally you need something like the Sennheiser I suggested so it all works well. I would save and get the above. Neo 2
roamerallwaze Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 I have the RS175 setup and it works a treat via an optical cable from the TV. Check eBay and you might find one under your pricepoint, mine was found in an Opp Shop without power pack. all the best - Brian 1

DonGreen Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 The Senns can be had for $344 from Addicted to Audio atm, seems like a pretty good deal. Thinking about replacing my Sony Bluetooth cans with them. 1
Geoffms Posted January 14, 2024 Author Posted January 14, 2024 Just a follow-up on my original post. Seems that Sony, along with all other brand TV's, do not accommodate for the use of a bluetooth or wireless or wired device being used at the same time where TV and external device can control volume separately. That is all except LG TV's – they have this function. So parents had to sell their brand new Sony TV at a loss to buy an LG TV (and Dad, now has purchased Sennheiser B/tooth headphones is enjoying sound on his own without effecting the TV volume for Mum). Can not understand why other brands do not accommodate this function considering the number of people that hearing deficiencies. 1

A bummer that the Sony was missing this feature, but happy to hear the end result with LG is a good one ! 1
DonGreen Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 Fetch boxes have this feature for those users with Fetch. I’m running an old Sony LCD thru my Fetch box and can control the volume independently on my XB10 and KZ earbuds. I watch the new Sony OLED on my own in my music/theatre room, and use the XB10 and KZs instead of my hearing aids, doesn’t worry me too much. 1
