If everyone jumped of a cliff would I? Think this thread shows that I would.

So when your turntable doesn't fit into one of those other 'appreciation' threads because its an idler (and better :-P ) what do you do? Post pics here. That's what you do.

No pretenders with their straight out of the box inferior belt or direct drives need apply here.

Post away fellow idler...ers.

(I'Il add mine when I can)

Here's one. Shockingly good sound. Lenco L70. With an Ortofon Rondo Bronze MC cart. This is an exciting new acquisition for me, I have been very impressed by the speed and depth of bass, the micro dynamics, extra separation and soundstage, clean and extended top end, and not a hint of noise (rumble).

I gave up a Technics SP10 MK II plinthed in slate for this baby.

Lenco L75 with PTP3 plate, upgraded bearing, and one of Aslan's superb plinths. Still love the Alphason HR100S arm fitted, it was rewired for me by Audio Origami (jonny7) in Scotland.

First two pics are pre double platter.

How much better does the Lenco sound compared to the Technics SP10mkii. I rembrr using the SP10 in a community radio station, was a real solid unit almost indestructible.

You know, I've been asked this before.... and loved them both. Really did, and it was a tough choice as at the time I couldn't afford to run two tables, as well as not having the room to do so anyhow.

I chose the Lenco, because TO ME it gave a less clinical presentation, and also I found it a tad more involving.

I was also worried that one day the electronics on the SP10 may start playing up and replacement/repair might be harder to achieve, where as with the Lenco replacing motor/other parts doesn't pose the same problem due to availability and ease of install.

Very nice Garrard, Upfront, and a good Jelco 750D arm as well by the looks. Is the cart an Ortofon Bronze? Have you considered a MC cart like the Rondo?

It is a bronze. You have a good eye.

It's a second TT and I need a new phono stage and I have quite a few projects lined up. So a new cart will happen but not for a little while. I don't mind the bronze. Decent cheap cart.

I was fortunate to get a Rondo Bronze MC at a reasonable price early last year and I absolutely love it. Goes well with the Jelco arm too (which I believe is an OEM version of an Ortofon arm).

Idler love, I've enjoyed both Garrards and Lencos. There's some great heavy metal gear around which I'd like to own....EMT!

Nice arm James!

Chris Radford, vintage turntable restorer did a great job of getting my Father's turntable working again.

It's an Elac 50H idler from the late sixties. Sounds pretty damn good !

Fixing up a Garrard that was not in the best condition to start with.

Next looking to get a plinth built for it over the original one.

Is it worth trying to lube the motor and bearings myself or getting someone who knows what they doing to give it a service?

Hi Rob

How do find the SME3009 compared to the Jelco?

Lovely TTs in this thread.

Thorens 124 mk2 with SME 3012 and Audio Technica AT 32e MC cartridge.

nice deck but the quality plinth is in order to save that great turntable/arm.

Thanks lovetube. Yes it is a scrappy looking plinth, although the TT sounds remarkable given its  original running gear.

Its a long work in progress - a new plinth is on the shopping list...I am currently focused on slowly rebuilding the Thorens first, as funds allow.

Hi Pete, At first I think I was a little disapointed once I setup the Jelco. I did not really try out the SME arm. A quick spin at the start was about it. I really wanted a tonearm that had a removeable headshell. It's been what I really missed from back in the day when I owned  a Denon DP-1200. Have a few Cartridges (1 less recently after an accident :()

The sound with the Jelco seemed thin. No real body/soul to the music. It also had a new tonearm cable at the same time.

6 squash balls under the plinth has helped a lot.

I am puting it down to the original plinth and was hoping a new plinth may be what it needs.

Love to get a plinth like the next photo as I have been super impressed with a Well Tempered Simplex whhich uses SBalls and now how they helped the Garrard.

In the end I am thinking of getting one from a guy from Moldova made from muti layers of birch plywood.
