Beautiful Willco ... and by the looks of things a serious isolation platform beneath!

In my experience all Turntables benefit from both Structural and Airborne Isolation--sometimes not always possible with domestic environments. With Solid based Pinths and Non suspended Drives the Minus K is superb and in my book better most alternatives

Cost wise it is a no brainer for the improvement wrought  to an  Analogue system. If you want further enhancement you should consider the K Phenolic Stand as an Integral part of the System

Highlyl recommended

Wilco, that's the most beautiful turntable in the world! Stunning and lovely photos too, nice job.

Here's a question for Garrard 301 owners - anyone tried or heard a higher mass shindo style platter? I'm very tempted!

Yep, It's definitely worth it, but be aware that it will only work with the Shindo bearing as the interior profile is slightly different to the standard Garrard spindle. Part of the magic is in the platter mat as well.

Des, nice table ;)

Thanks Neil--

Yes as N states the bearing is entirely different structure--its longer for a start-also Oil bearing--in fact you must use feet under the Plinth as the Bearing base extends outside the bottom.

The Mat-interestingly--you ping the Platter and it rings like bell(!)--replace the mat--and nix/nada-- quirky!

Neil may like to correct the impression Shindo do not sell the items as piecemeal at this time any more

To Answer some  offline Q's re my Placement pic above--the Table comes with a set of ball bearing footers(Curiously not adjustable for height /etc)-yes they are under mine--which are in turn upon a 4"Block of Mapleshade Air Dried Maple(as the Pre below sits on)

Just to clash visually(sic) with the Japanese Cherry was bit hard to take--hence it has a Velvet edge cover--to soften the blow, so to speak.

Al in all the sound is Sublime to the core.

Good Listening,

Happy with the sound?

Morning Mr T, Yes The late Ken Shindo mentioned in his précis --that his Plinth was the key to the sound--tell you what it though it has a mesmerizing smell of Cherry Blossoms--seriously!

Being one of the oldest Farts on the block--I've owned a fair few TT's--this delivers say 99% of the Vinyl Playback -- nearly every other one I've owned--or can remember hearing in the last 53 years I'd say 75% at the very best of

It is indeed close to perfection as I can Imagine.Christian in WA has one as well-he may chime in with his impressions.

Hope all well with you on your front

All is well here.

Not fair, not only does it look great, it smells great and sounds great too.

I had noticed that ChristianB has one too.

Ha-Many moons ago--the Cinema tried Smellavision-- they wafted essence into the Theatre whilst an appropriate scene was on--the mind boggles

I'm not certain but I think one time it was Elizabeth Taylor's perfume when she came on screen-duhhh?

Sorry back on track!

Yes CB the fellow in Perth.

Absolutely correct Des, Shindo do not sell individual components any longer, only complete turntable systems. If this changes in the future we shall see.

Beautiful, Willco, as others have said.

Though I don't own the whole Shindo set, and have gone down a different path plinth-wise, I do own a leaded Shindo mat, I concur, it's amazing.

Can somebody recommend me a turntable mat to replace the stock rubber one on my 301?

Hi mate. If you want to borrow an Auditorium A23 mat which is what I use on the 301 happy to drop it in the post to try it out. I think @@NeilNZ also uses the A23.

PM details if interested.

I use an Auditorium A23 on a 401. Works well.

Would be interesting to hear how you find it compared to the Loricraft.

Yep sure do, the Hommage mat is the one to go for. I now have a Shindo mat on mine, but at the shop it's still an  A23. Universal praise from everyone who tries them.

Can one of you lot please post a link to where you can get the a23 mats from? I've looked on the website and no mention of mats there.

Funk Firm?

http://www.thefunkfirm.co.uk/turntables/page21/page21.html

Achromat 1200: Some turntables, (Garrard 301 / 401 and Technics SL1200), have a platter with a machined lip which precludes the use of the normal Achromats (which have a diameter of 293mm).

For these turntables we have launched a version of the mat with an undercut to overcome the problem.

Thanks for all the feedback and especially to the guys who offered to send me mats to compare - very generous of you.

Unfortunately I just don't have the patience to sit down and do things like Mat comparisons. I'm the same with cable comparisons. They bore me to tears, I'd rather just listen.

The A23 mat seems to be popular - something I might have to investigate further. The Loricraft was also on my radar, just because Loricraft have some serious pedigree when it comes to Garrard.

Tony (td19) any idea how does this compare to the standard thinner A23 mat, which I have? Worth the upgrade IYHO? RRP?

As all hifi retailers are devils incarnate and evil, I daren't ask Neil :)
