zonx Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024  Hi I’ve recently moved into a two storey townhouse and I’m in the process of setting up my surround system. The room is only 4x4 and I have my TV on wall and underneath I have my TV unit with my Elac Vela BS 403 speakers and the match Elac Vela centre speaker and next to TV unit an SVS SB 2000 subwoofer. I was hoping to have a 5.1.2 setup but another issue is I need to put the 2 rear surround speakers in ceiling and another 2 in ceiling speakers for Atmos. I know it’s not ideal but I don’t have much choice because behind the couch is glass sliding door. Im also wondering if the in ceiling speakers need to be the same brand and model? Because the Elac in ceiling speakers that have been recommended are very pricey and I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Is it ok just to use any half decent in ceiling speakers? Â

No! All too often, people assume ceiling (and surround) speakers are still for effects only. This was true when surround first came out, but movies today have increasingly complex audio.  Composers talk of a sound architecture. Have a listen to what Hans Zimmer has to say...  https://professional.dolby.com/hear-from-the-creators/dune-hans-zimmer/#gref  Suggest you get same brand speakers...
