Type 1 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Recently, I have been experimenting with single driver speakers… caused by my old speakers failing. I haven’t got far, it’s been just over 6 months journeying…. I’ve made a number of boxes, mostly following the Tapered Quarter wave formula.. So, maybe stupidly, I was thinking that an “ affordable “ driver upgrade might help. Currently using SB Acoustics 8 inch driver and for the $$ it’s pretty good for someone who hasn’t been far down this journey. Stupidly, I always look “outside the box”, so I came across SONIDO. Does anyone have an opinion whether I will be happy paying 4-5 times what I pay for SB Acoustics? Some extra mid bass or separation or detail are all acceptable things… Sorry for the vague post. Thanks in advance.
Kraken580 Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Depends on the sound that your looking for. I too walk the path to full range. played with Coral Flat 8s, SB 8 inch, Onkyo OMF 1. Never hear in person the Sonidos but if you like clear dynamic sound, I'd recommend Seas FA22rcz this is what Im listening too now on a experimentat OB. For the money no one can fault SB acoustics but if only buy once you'd have to spend more. For me Seas has put lots of thoughts into designing this FR, a close inspection will show you why. Cheers
Type 1 Posted February 8, 2024 Author Posted February 8, 2024 Thanks Kraken!, I appreciate your opinion! sadly single drivers aren’t like cars where you can easily test drive to decide! Thanks for the feedback!!
Kraken580 Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Your welcome. If you like I can email you some sound clips of the Seas Fa22 on my set up. Cheers
