Can I use front tower speakers as rear speakers?

Hi guys, I have a questions for you’s. I have a Yamaha Rx-V6A amp with Dali concept 6  front tower speakers with a Krix mini centrix for the center speaker. My question is can I run tower speakers for my rear/surround instead of book shelf speakers? I have a spare pair of Krix towers lying around. All are 8 Ohm.

Since you've got some spare speakers hanging around, it will cost you nothing just have a go and see what you reckon.

Why not?

 

If you want the best experience, use the same brand speakers.  If that is not possible, then timbre match them (they all sound the same).

Using your front spkrs as rears ... will cause their phase to be reversed!!

Being serious now ... I would've thought it is a much better idea to have front spkrs (L, mid & R) from the same mfr - and use 'foreign' spkrs for the rears.

Well now ive got

Center  - Krix centrix

Front     - Dali concept 6 towers

Rears     - Krix apex Mk 3.1 towers 

I’m sure the Yami amp should be ok with it.

You sure can, I'm doing it with 4 x B&W DM604 for the Front and Rear L/R, is great for music.
