hrumph Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 (edited) Ha-Ha, that's great Jake. I notice hi-fi in movies too. All of a sudden I'll pause the movie and I'll be on my hands and knees in front of the TV squinting at a turntable that appears in the background, out of focus and for under a second. My wife and and daughter are groaning. I'm muttering "...is that a Mk II? ...hmmm. ...bit hard to tell" Edited February 28, 2024 by hrumph 1 1

ENIGMA Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 Not that common to have both 2T and 4T heads as well as 15ips on a machine that was made for the consumer market. There was a studio version of this model and the difference was it had balanced inputs and outputs. EQ is NAB in case the prospective buyer is having a look at some lovely albums to order - many labels have the ability to choose to suit the machine. You don't need to worry if you make your own recordings on the machine. I think this might have been Teac's last machine/model as they made them into the early 90's. A set of black or carbon fiber reels goes well with this finish!
Jake123 Posted February 29, 2024 Author Posted February 29, 2024 Thanks for your comments. The Sound Quality from this machine for self made reel to reel music tapes at 15ips is incredible. It really is. It's difficult to articulate so as to give the music quality due credit. All I can say is that I think the new owner of this TEAC X2000M will be pleasantly surprised that electronic and mechanical architecture from the 1990's can sound better than some modern 2024 technology. This format if you can, is something to embrace. I do note that Modern Studio released prerecorded recordings in this format are not cheap. Something like US$400 an album, although there are cheaper modern studio prerecorded music tapes available. What I suggest is that if anyone is interested in this machine, please undertake your research into both the TEAC X2000M and the tape format, particularly recordings at 15ips. And more importantly enjoy this hobby and the music whatever format you are listening to, life really is too short. 1 1
Jake123 Posted February 29, 2024 Author Posted February 29, 2024 Sorry also forgot, Enigma is right, black reel reels would look great with this machine, here's a couple of pictures from the internet. .
hrumph Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 "life really is too short. " Absolutely, Jake. I have a hobby which is buying low quality guitars and working on them, playing them, tweaking, playing, tweaking, playing... until nothing more can be done to improve the instrument. Then I buy a new one and off we go again. I decided to do try the same approach with my HiFi so put my stereo into storage and started to build a new one. Now my philosophy is to tweak, listen, tweak, listen... until the stereo sounds perfect for my taste, which is nothing like typical audiophile tastes and then swap the speakers. This kickstarts swapping out the entire system piece by piece. This is a five year cycle. Why? Because I've got maybe 4 more systems left before my times up. Life is absolutely too short. 1

Yes, with tape you can get the best version by none but don't tell them digital fellas as they tend to get a bit upset when its brought up. And - you need a machine first to get there.
Jake123 Posted March 1, 2024 Author Posted March 1, 2024 (edited) In the context of Tape (15ips) my dad use to say, it had this magic which brought life to the music. Edited March 3, 2024 by Jake123
