Hey everyone,

I've added a Leaving Soon section as part of an experimental phase. You can find it right after the Latest Additions area. For now, it includes basic information such as the title, service, countries and the date(s) when the movie is expiring. Further details will be included later.

I'm happy to announce that the Where to Stream section will now be updated more frequently! This will provide more accurate information about the availability of 4K movies on streaming platforms as they come and go. By the way, the 4K titles on Apple TV+ and Disney+ have just been refreshed, including their availability on the platform and across regions!

Hey everyone,

A couple of updates:

1. A huge platform refresh has been applied, and the only one outstanding is Prime Video, which will occur tomorrow.

2. Movie links are up-to-date. If you find any broken links, please report them.

3. Due to the growth of the Latest Additions/Leaving Soon sections, I'm considering adding a 'load more' button to expand the list based on our preferences.

4. My picks for the weekend are:

Pulp Fiction (Netflix AU/UK): Dolby Vision but with a limited HDR range. However, if Netflix is using the 2022 DI (remastered in 4K), it's worth a watch.

Inside Out 2 (Disney AU/CA/UK/US): Dolby Vision and a great Atmos track.

Enjoy the weekend and happy watching!

I've now added two 'Load More' buttons (in the 'Latest Additions' and 'Leaving Soon' sections on the homepage) to paginate as we choose. I believe this improves usability and gives us better control over what we want to see. In a nutshell, everything is updated and running at full capacity. By the way, nearly 50 4K movies have been added...!  :thumb:

Introducing the New Cross-Platform Movie Check Feature!

After just 3 days of development, I'm happy to announce the early access launch of the new 4K StreamCheck page.

This tool allows us to easily compare 4K playback formats, regional availability and HDR range across multiple streaming platforms, all in one place. For now, it's available to the early-adopters to help me test it out before the full rollout.

➡ Try it out here

Hi all,

Quick update:

1) Bulk updates have been performed for the recent 4K releases across streaming platforms. Please check them out in the next 2-3 hours! I've added about 76 new titles, including some great classics and new releases. Below are just a few of the 4K Picks:
image.png.add0323179c0cc304c94035956517231.png

2) In addition to the StreamCheck page, the corresponding Stats page has been created. I'm calling it the 4K Multi-Service Movie Stats | Compare Across Streaming Platforms
While still in its early stages (v0.1), this page offers more advanced functionality than StreamCheck. We can filter by Service & Region, hide unwanted platforms and quickly compare 4K movies across different streaming services, complete with HDR Brightness numbers where available. The layout, design and features like "Best Seen on <streamer XYZ>" are just the beginning, expect more improvements, filters and features to come!

Beta version 0.95 is live now. :thumb:

In addition to a few minor bug fixes, I'm happy to introduce the Discrepancy Alert feature. A bit of background: I was already capturing a 'Discrepancy Report' which highlights movies that are available in different resolutions (e.g., 4K in one region but only HD in another on the same streaming service).

To enhance the streaming experience, this new feature allows us to switch, for example, from Prime Video Australia (HD) to Prime Video US (4K) to get the best quality available, becoming especially useful for users who use VPN or switch regions. But, it might be less relevant for those who only stream within their home region. I hope this tool helps us to access the best possible viewing resolution. As a bonus, 4K often includes HDR and Atmos support, so it's not just about resolution, overall viewing quality can be improved as well.

For now, whenever applicable, we can see it (example below) in the 'Latest Additions' section (on the homepage) and the All Movies page . I will be rolling it out to other relevant pages in the next few days.

New Pages

I'd like to announce two new features:

Weekly Picks for You: This page has 'handpicked' 4K streaming recommendations tailored just for members, based on their favourite genres and streaming services. The idea of it is to be a personal guide to the latest and best 4K content. Each week, members will find new recommendations. (I’ll be sending out a friendly email to members very soon with all the details on how it works and how to get the most out of it).

My Ratings: Now, we can easily keep track of every movie we've rated, such as:

Personal Ratings: View all the movies we've rated, including scores for Video Quality, Audio Quality and/or HDR experience.

Easy Access: Quickly find our previous ratings and compare them with the community’s average.

Where to Find It? Member menu under My Profile.

Hi everyone,

I'm happy to share an interactive visual journey that showcases how major streaming platforms have expanded their 4K movie offerings over the past decade. This video takes us from the early days of 4K streaming in 2014 to a projected view of the landscape by December 31st, 2024.

. A visual timeline showing the growth of 4K content on platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Paramount+.

. Insights into which service led the race in 4K content and how others have caught up.

. Data tracked and catalogued by me through 4KFilmDb, with an estimated accuracy variance of up to ±20%.

Introducing the 4K Interactive Film Map!

I'm happy to announce one of the most exciting features I've created: the 4K Filming Locations Map . This new (beta) tool lets us explore over 2000 filming locations around the world.

Is this concept new? Not really, but unlike ad-heavy sites with limited selections, the 4K Interactive Film Map offers a straightforward, ad-free experience with an extensive and growing list of film locations. It's just getting started. Expect rapid growth in titles and ongoing refinements. I think we’re already ahead of the game here at Stereonet.

Any suggestions, I’d be happy to hear them.

Hi all,

The only way to quickly implement the creation and placement of the full playback quality report for now is as follow:

1) The "4K Verified" badge will be visible for titles with playback quality details.

image.png.82a54ffef6226131da3a5451a13635a7.png

2) Once we click "Generate Full Playback Report" we'll be directed to the movie page where we'll have the option to view the details.

image.png.98ce68217e2ee2b5cede12622739111f.png

I apologise for this extra step, but I’ll be streamlining this process once I have more capacity. 🙂

P.S.: The initial selection criteria for the 4K movies are as follows:

  • Available for streaming on Netflix
  • HDR metadata is available
  • Dolby Atmos support
  • Any region, but must also be available in Australia (for verification and accuracy purposes without relying on a VPN, which slows down the speed!)
  • Documentaries, animations and musicals are excluded for now.

Hi guys,

Here are a couple of HDR brightness values for 4K titles available to rent/buy on Apple TV (iTunes).

image.png.5b44bd690074d9ff5a1fdf063f44e0cf.png
Apple TV: Peak of 897 nits / Avg of 497 nits (For comparison, Netflix: Peak of 509 nits / Avg of 500 nits)

image.png.a4587642b0234de364229e7edd2dd22a.png
Apple TV: Peak of 2636 nits / Avg of 747 nits (this is exactly the same transfer as the UHD disc!) within the BT.2020 colour container.
(Regardless of these HDR metadata values, it offers pristine reference video and audio quality).

Hello Everyone,

It's time to unveil the Best 4K Streaming Movies of 2024, the collection of top-tier 4K movies from the database that excel in Dolby Atmos, HDR brightness and overall film content. This selection celebrates the best of 2024 (while also marking the 11th month since I first created my Google Sheet to catalogue my initial ~100 movies from 2023), based on my comprehensive data from all movies released on streaming this year.

What’s in the List?

Best Dolby Atmos: Movies featuring excellent Atmos (and overall) audio, perfect for demo purposes when the UHD disc isn’t available.

Best 4K HDR Range: Movies that excel in the perfect brightness range (peaks between 1000-2000 nits ; averages between 400-600 nits) designed to push and test the limits of the HDR display's capabilities.

Top Overall 4K Movies: Films that represent the best of 4K streaming in 2024, combining good to excellent content quality & storytelling.

Where to Explore?
Head over to the dedicated page:
Explore the Best of 2024
Use the filters to switch between categories.

How I Chose the Best
Selections were made based on my unique streaming data, including HDR metadata, Dolby Atmos scores and aggregated film ratings (covering movies released up to December 16, 2024).
Note: The order of titles within categories is random and does not reflect rankings or relevancy.
Note2: For fairness, Docs have been excluded from the 2024 selection.

Does anyone notice the only 4K movie that excels across all three categories? 🙂
