Sammy1776 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Yes i have few.Now that vinyl sales are going through the roof alot of scum has started selling. The main thing i belive is that buyers give honest feedback, even if a refund is given.Feedback is about the experience you have not if you get a refund. The scam of "vinyl phishing" is rampant(where sellers throw out, crap vinyl hoping people will just keep it.If they get hasssled they will offer a refund).Of course this can be legit, but to some its a business model.I have bought tons of lp's sold as mint and have been nowhere near it.Now i ask for photo'd everytime. Sammy1776 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) Apologies in advance but I need to vent! Been looking for a particular limited (and somewhat obscure) album for years now and a few weeks ago finally saw one for sale on eBay so I jumped on it paying a premium in the process. Item was listed as new and photos and feedback was good so thought I was fairly safe but how WRONG I was... I'll let the photos do the talking but seriously what the hell are some people thinking when it comes to packaging an item? I mean how do you expect it to arrive when the only cardboard protection is the album cover itself! I will be contacting the seller asking for a refund but not sure where I stand when it comes to postage damages I belive that this was the way it was when packaged.I have bought hundred's of LP's from the US and have never had a problem,Its usually a dodgy seller, than Aust Post. Krispy Audio Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Just got my Beck from JB, horrendous packaging. Looks like some box re-hashed to look like a pizza box which could have held 10LPs. Outer damage I can live with, the cupped/warped issue has the LP sitting about 6mm proud of the platter! Yes this is how it was packaged - no bubble wrap, foam, nothing else!

Looks like you need to put it on a VPI with a periphery ring..... 1
Krispy Audio Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 True! To JB's credit I've already heard back, they're sending a replacement in better packaging with a return box for me to return to them. Fingers crossed on the next one.

gz76 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I received some vinyl from Amazon fulfilment this week. It was in a cardboard record mailer, inside a larger box with some other items I ordered. Overall it faired okay, although there was still some corner damage and a split seem on one of the sleeves. I can live with it tho as it's not a rare album (yet?). I was concerned however when I opened the box and could feel the heat radiating out after the courier had obviously left it sitting in a hot van all day. Fortunately all the records were 180g releases so they're a little more tolerant to warping - popped them on the platter and they're still flat. Could easily have gone the other way tho.
shaky Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Bought an LP a few weeks ago. Was an absolute bargain, bid on through eBay. Paid 1/10th of what others are asking for the same thing BUT it was posted in a padded envelope from QLD to VIC! I was very worried about what I'd see as I opened it after reading this thread and the OPs experience beforehand. Lucky (and I'd say only dumb luck as to how AP typically handle post) to say it turned up unscathed. A lesson learnt to ask future sellers to go that step further with packaging but not learnt the hard way by me.
Geoffcb Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I received a limited edition Small Faces album from Burning Shed (UK) yesterday. The outside cardboard cover was thin, and the corners were bent. "Oh, No", I thought, and took a photo. However, it looks like they purposely make the outside cardboard cover larger to absorb any impacts or bending. The album and cover were fine, luckily!
monaro8 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 So sorry to hear of these easily rectifiable packing issues for records. In doing so, I got a smacking brainwave slap to the side of my head...the right side if you must know.... How hard would it be to ask them to pack your beloved purchase into an empty......PIZZA BOX....wrapped in bubble wrap...or old newspaper etc. I think a Large pizza box should be the right size...NO...a Family size box...yes a Family sized pizza box to be safe. I'm sure the seller could persuade the local pizza guy to give or sell him an empty unused Family size pizza box. If the seller was a tight-ass, maybe he could meander down to the local pizza shop one night...hang around for a while outside and wait for someone to emerge with a Family sized pizza they just purchased. He could follow them to their home and wait about half an hour outside the front door of their house...listen to them eating that yummy hot pizza (I love mine with lots of hot salami) At the right moment, the seller could ring their door bell...he could pretend he is from the local Council.... he could say something like... "Good evening Sir, I'm from your local Shite Stink Council and am here to warn my local constituents of a recent outbreak of fart and mouth disease...yes, that's right, fart and mouth disease. Contracted from coming into to contact with, or eating a pizza...correct Sir, a pizza. Must be avoided at all cost...have you had a pizza recently? Oh!! You have, damn shame that" "If so, and if you still have the pizza box, I will need to confiscate it immediately for laboratory testing." There you go...free Family size pizza box for safe packing and shipping of a beloved LP. Problem solved.....
masliko Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) MAN I'M PISSED!! I got an LP in mail today, and the corner was smashed, and a big dent in the middle!.This sellers did the right thing and used reinforcement sheets and a proper mailer. If he hadn't used reinforcing sheets i would gone after him(and i would have won too) I'm going to rrreeeeeeaaaaaaaaammmmmmm AUSPOST in the morning! I have a very bad temper but have lean't to control it - EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO MY RECORDS! WTF is going on! And this was not even an international item.I've been buying vinyl for long time and its odd that in the last few months this happened. Please post here,as I'm going to send these the AUSPOST manager with my complaint(which i've spoken to before in the past)tomorrow. I'm starting to think its a scam,to get people to start buying insurance? Edited April 1, 2014 by masliko
Equaliser Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Buying insurance? Like paying bit extra for registered postage with $100 insurance inclusive? The handling motto with post is, "if it Fragile, we'll break it".

I'm starting to think its a scam,to get people to start buying insurance? If you go about this in the way you suggest you certainly won't get much satisfaction, perhaps you may end up talking to a nice policeman. Do this; Take clear pictures of the LP inside the packaging - showing how it was packed Take clear pictures of the outside damage to the packaging Take clear pictures of the damage to the LP COVER Take clear pictures of the damage to the LP Print pictures and take them, all the packaging and the damaged LP to the post office Ask for a complaint form, fill it out and then explain to the nice person at the PO that you would like to lodge a claim for compensation. Be prepared to leave all the items at the PO for up to 12 weeks. After 3 weeks contact the PO to check on the progress of your claim, just in case it was forgotten about (mine went astray) If you are lucky you might receive a full refund - unlikely since you didn't insure the package If you are given a full refund you leave all the originals with the PO and purchase a new copy Good luck.
ferchersan Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 How hard would it be to ask them to pack your beloved purchase into an empty......PIZZA BOX....wrapped in bubble wrap...or old newspaper etc. Not all sellers are this clever. Or considerate. I know @@progladyte is!
ferchersan Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I had a couple of LP's arrive with badly damaged covers recently. The LP mailers used were flimsy at best, an entire corner of the package had been folded over. I took some photos and emailed the seller only to have them offer me a postage paid return. I printed out the labels only to notice that it is free postage if posted within the United States. Grrr!! Very annoying as I have placed 23 orders with this seller over the last 18 months from their eBay store. Shipping is fixed at $4.75AUD per item. I was browsing Amazon.com and saw the same seller and foolishly did the one click purchase option. When i received the order confirmation, I had been charged $37.50AUD shipping for two LPs. There was an option to cancel the order, so I immediately tried that. No response from the seller until a day later when I received a shipping notice. Later that day the seller responded, saying I didnt give them sufficient notice. I emailed immediately upon receiving the order confirmation! Thirty days later, no response from the seller and no Paypal protection to sort it out. Seller is importcds. They are on eBay as importcds.au Live and learn.
