JkSpinner Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Hi all, I have an Oppo 105 that has just started to malfunction. My Oppo is only 2 channel, primarily to play FLAC or WAV files from a USB SSD drive, and the occasional CD. The OPPO is connected to a MICHI X5, both via optical and RCA analogue, I switch between the two DACs. The problems started 3 weeks ago when I upgraded my Samsung phone when I discovered the Media Centre App was not available. After a post on this forum, I discovered why. But the the App on my IPAD also started playing up, then stopped working. Whilst trying to determine whether the Oppo can still be used as a DAC, I then noticed the 2 channel output only works via the left speaker, and the digital output did not work at all. Strange thing was everything worked fine three weeks ago. The front 2 channels on the 7 channel output still works but is severely lacking in detail. There is also no red light from the optical cable when playing a CD. I have completed a factory reset to no evail. I have connected other devices to my Michi X5 inputs and found them to work fine. Before I move to questions on what to replace it with, is it worth getting looked at $100 service fee, then fixed, or is it time to replace.
Dolphy Posted April 1, 2024 Posted April 1, 2024 I would get it fixed. I have the 103 and is playing up. I'd get it fixed too. Mainly for ripping (backing up) SACDs. 2
JkSpinner Posted April 22, 2024 Author Posted April 22, 2024 I thought so as well. I approached one of the repairers who use to repair the OPPO in Brisbane who suggested, it is to difficult to get parts for them now. And if I were to only use it as a CD player, I could probably buy an equivalent quality CD player for probably less then $1500. It is sitting in the shed for now
Perth.hifi Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 It's still a brilliant player. I thought I'd try a back to back playback with the oppo105 and my panasonic ub9000, with the same movie, 1080p vs 4k disc. I was shocked, I preferred the oppo for both picture and sound. Bizarre. I was not expecting it.

I was not expecting it. I have the UB9000 and Oppo 103, and it is not possible for the Oppo to beat the UB9000 for PQ and SQ via HDMI. I also had the Oppo 203, which easily beat the 103, but lost to the UB9000. All comparisons used identical cables, settings. The 103 and 105 uses same video and HDMI chip. The 105 has better stereo SQ than 103. And how can the 103/105 do 4K with an old generation video chip???

I may have incorrect settings or my epson tw9400 isn't good enough to show true 4k, I just preferred the look of the oppo tonight. I was playing "The Great Wall" movie, same hdmi cables.
kffern Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I have a similar problem with the analog output of my oppo 105. It stops and stutters on both channels. Digital output still works though. Not sure if it's worth posting over east from WA for repair. The tidal feature always was buggy. I have an alternative streamer now. Kffern 1
