About 15+ years ago, we purchased a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi receiver. Presently, we use it for watching TV – it is connected to a computer and a DVD player, both via HDMI; and a TV monitor, again via HDMI. While it basically functions properly, there are some issues when we try to change input sources. For example, after watching a DVD, we have to turn everything off for a few minutes otherwise it does not seem to be aware of the computer input.

Today, I tried following the instructions on page 63 of the manual, but nothing happened when I pushed the Setup button on the remote controller. I then turned the Input Selector dial, but again nothing happened.

Question: Is it possible that these units will cease operating properly as they get old?

Maxxx - Thank you.

I did the reset and that seemed to resolve some of the issues. I then configured the receiver such that HDMI1 (the computer) is associated with Video 1; and HDMI2 is associated with the DVD. I was then able to see both the computer and the DVD.

Weirdly, when I switched the input from DVD to Video 1, the monitor (?) reported no input (same issue as previously). Not sure what to try next, I sat and pondered for about 20 seconds, when the computer image appeared. Yes, it works, but the time lag is really quite annoying.

Hi @groston

Its possible over time components will not work as well as they once did. That doesn't mean in this case its the amp. It may mean the tech around it ceases to be as compatible with the old stuff.

If you can handle the 20 second delay...keep it. If not, go shopping.
