Luc Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 Extra Info: Chasing a top loader, Rega Saturn or an uber good Apollo(anniversary model would be nice), Raysonic128CDP in good nick and all need to have a remote. 1
Andythiing Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 I realise it’s above your budget but have you considered the new shanling top loader cd?
rockeater Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 If you don't mind Chinese players I have the famous (or infamous) MHZS-88CDE. Great machine in my opinion. Nor quite in the Wadia territory, but better than almost anything else other than absolute highest end. It is at the bottom on my old (and not updated in years) for sale page, where there is a link to a Utube video. Cheers Roman https://hear.net.au/4sale/index.php video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNAU0lyrFrk 1

Cheers Roman https://hear.net.au/4sale/index.php video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNAU0lyrFrk Thx Roman, I'll have a look at it. The way I have my system set up it suits a toploader(sellers regret, I sold my Raysonic128, silly move) and I hadn't looked past the models I mentioned, the older Saturn would be ideal but I'm in no rush so I'll have a look at your vid later, cheers. Edit: I've actually got a tube output Shanling I bought from here a few years back but it's a front loader and it just doesn't suit.(so no probs with Chinese hifi at all) Edited May 26, 2024 by Luc

They have 2 versions https://en.shanling.com/article-IntroET3.html review of both https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olYAH40_wbQ I see the et3 seems to retail for $1600 at a couple of Australian outlets - but landed in Australia via eBay for under $1100 from us??? - no stock on Amazon - perhaps the cheaper version might suffice - no personal experience with the product
rantan Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 @Luc If the budget can stretch, this is definitely, highly recommended

Luc Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 I started the WTB thinking I'd settle on an old Rega as they were and are a bullet proof bit of gear that looks the part too(not the new ugly box style they've gone to, ugly as ...) but I've since come across this and this looks the goods https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/products/smsl-audio-pl200-hi-res-cd-player It's available for $1060 on Amazon and other sites. Small footprint and Inside, a brand new flagship converter chip from AKM, it's a fine thing. Short signal paths, physically minimalist concept. 2

I really shouldn't have done so. However I am amply soothed by the dulcet tones of the Electrocompaniet EMC 1 UP,which i purchased from @psychometrics1 https://electrocompaniet.com/products/emc-1-up Best top loader I have ever owned. I thought that was a never ever prospect, selling the Rega. Sellers regret niggles all the time. What did you replace it with?

Luc Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 @josefjv Thx for taking the time to post a pic Josef but the Planet is just a bit too old for me I'm afraid.
Luc Posted May 28, 2024 Author Posted May 28, 2024 Thx for all the input guys and I'm now seriously leaning towards buying the SMSL Audio PL200 Hi-Res CD Player I'd of jumped at a Saturn but this SMSL ticks boxes that I didn't know needed ticking, lol. 2

Would you wear a special robe for that? But seriously, it does look like a neat little box of tricks focused on what matters. 1
