Hello folks

I am looking for a new pre-amp, partly for simplifying my set-up and partly because my partner would like a better UI than what my current DIY TVC pre-amp offers.

My set up is sources> pre-amp> to powered/active speakers (Fostex Nf4a) (the pre-amp also has a pass-through RCA out to my headphone amp). The set-up is decent for the space and within my means, no aspirations here to "hi-end" audiophile gear.

I have my eye on the Rotel-RC 1572 MKII and was curious if anyone has used one? I am thinking it could replace my phono stage as well, and also seems to have a decent DAC ( I don't have a separate DAC currently). My current phono stage is a Pearl DIY which is fantastic, but I would be prepared to sacrifice it for the sake of simplicity and space as long as the Rotel phono-stage isn't terrible.

The Rotel also has XLR and RCA outs, which would allow me to keep the speakers and the headphone amp connected.

Any one care to comment on how they've found these Rotels and any are there any serious problems with them?

Thanks!

Shirley, Cameron (@ericd) - the Rotel 1572 MKII is an integrated amp ... not a preamp?

Whatever, I suspect any phono stage built into a preamp will not sound as good as your Pearl.    But of course ... if your primary aim is reducing your box count - that's irrelevant.

Hey Andy.

For Rotel models, RAxxxx is integrated, RBxxxx is power amp, and RCxxxx is preamp.

RA1572 is an integrated, but RC1572 is a preamp.

Aaah, OK - thanks, Darryl.  👍

(I simply selected the name Cameon had used in his post - Rotel- 1572 MKII - and Google came up with an integrated amp.)

Yep- as I said in the original post I know the Pearl is likely to outclass the phono stage in the Rotel. However there are other factors to take into account so looking for a reasonable compromise. If the phono stage on the Rotel isn't terrible, I'll cope!

Why EricD, did you end up getting the Rotel 1572? I’m in a similar boat - looking to pair a preamp with my RB-1582 power amp. Have you looked at the RC-1590 mkii?

Thanks Alan

Appreciate the offer, I’m looking to buy new this time. I have to say I’ve been pretty happy with the Tonewinner so far.
Finding that Onkyo for sale might be easier said than done in any case!

cheers
