Our lucky dog bit through the power lead on the computer subwoofer but managed to only bite through the neutral cable leaving the active untouched.  I’m tempted to get a small junction bos rather than take it in for repairs.

Lucky for her that she  is so beautiful and able to bite partially through a cable but a still a big pain.  Most of the low voltage garden lights need new connections and cables.

Years ago my tearaway, untrainable ,tree-climbing, rubbish bin-destroying, beach shitting and Ranger-biting collie Baxter quietly chewed through a light cord behind the lounge--there was a flash, a bang and a discombobulated dog staggering into view. As my grandson said at the time:

"His hair was all standing up...he walked around in a circle...he sat down...he got up again...then he sat down again..." And his behaviour never improved one iota after that!

Fortunately my all valve system was not playing at the time. Valves are expensive.

what an adorable little menace 🙂

@PKay if you can fit a junction box you could probably replace the cable. If you’re not confident doing that then I would take it somewhere for repair.

some friends of mine had in idiot staffy who would chew cables and they stopped him by rubbing dencorub on the cables. It smelled a bit but not as bad as the dog ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looks like a right young ratbag!

Thankfully should be bit more sensible by 2 years old, although Retrievers are slower to grow up! 😂

Lexi when she was 2, don't know how she dodged this one!, 🤔

Rather than a junction box, it would be better to just shorten the power lead and re-terminate inside the box, if there is enough length left in the good bit with the plug attached.

Failing that, just replace the power lead with a new one. If you aren't able to do it yourself, especially seeing as mains voltage is involved, take it to your nearest electronics repair tech. Les than half hours work for the tech.

You (or your tech) may even be able to reclaim a lead, of similar spec, from a junked piece of electrical equipment.

With the junction box idea, you still have the problem of wiring and terminating mains wiring. Added hassle of making sure the cable is firmly attached with strain relief, so that strain isn't applied directly to the terminations. And you have an unwieldy lump halfway down your cable.

It could take longer. She has King Charles Cavalier in her breeding as well. Meant to be a mini retriever.

I was being a bit lazy not wanting to pull the subwoofer apart. If it’s easy access I’ll do it otherwise off to a techie.

Lucky for our dog we have earth leakage switches so hopefully if she does something silly (again) it won’t do too much damage.

This thing is a bit of a pain but probably less hassle than a trip across Sydney to Chris Kimil.

Unfortunately the clip that holds the power cable in place isn’t coming out. May need to go to Chris.

To get the strain relief grommet out you need to depress the smaller tab (on the inside) with a pair of pliers. It will then come out. And do the same when refitting it, making sure you have some slack between the grommet and the soldered terminals. It looks like you've mashed the original one a bit 😞 Hopefully it will still hold the cable in place securely.

The solder joints are pretty crap on that tranny too, I hope you are able to do better than the OEM.

To be on the safe side, it may be better to get a tech to do it for you.

Here's a video on how to remove the grommet:
