Perth.hifi Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Hi all. I have a Panasonic ub9000 4k bluray player. Was going to update the recent firmware, but, when I select the home and settings menu it's blank, I can't see anything. The screen is solid black. When I hit play on a movie it plays, and I can see my Marantz av8805 on screen menu plus Panasonic Options menu. But when selecting home, nothing comes up, not even my Marantz menu. Please help. I tried resetting the unit, but no difference. Unplugged for 20mind, no difference. Any idea please. Thank you
Quark Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 (edited) IIRC the menus display at 60Hz, most movies display at ~24Hz. If your HDMI cable is marginal and bandwidth limited, this could be the issue (cables can degrade due to repeated unplugging or if active, the internal electronics degrading). Check to ensure cable is seated correctly at both ends. Try bypassing the Marantz and go direct to the display. Edited July 14, 2024 by Quark 2
Guest Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Aside from using a different HDMI cable, try fresh batteries in remote...

I tried a different hdmi port on the Marantz, tried Aux2 hdmi, and it worked. I don't get it. If the hdmi2 DVD input was bad then it wouldn't display the movie at all, but that woks. I'll have to purchase some new cables, mine are 10 years old, one is a audioquest 4k cable, other is a dick Smith 4k cable, couple years newer. 1
Quark Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 It's possible the port is no longer passing full bandwidth needed for 60Hz, but can pass enough for 24Hz.

Cheers, so are you saying that the hdmi port on the Marantz has failed? Or is there a setting I can tweak on the Marantz or on the panasonic player? Edited July 14, 2024 by Perth.hifi
Quark Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 It might just be some corrosion in the port, but it does sound like it's on the way out.

Gotta say alittle dissatisfied with short life of a high end unit. Cheers Edited July 14, 2024 by Perth.hifi

Cheers I have one and they are very good quality wise, wouldn't write it off just yet. Worthwhile getting it checked over, if different cable doesn't work. HDMI port hasn't been damaged at all? I've swapped hdmi ports for the moment, thou my RTI REMOTE is programed to DVD INPUT 2, when I attempted to adjust input settings on the Marantz from hdmi input 2 to 6, it's not switching to the correct input on the RTI Remote. Thought that was the purpose of the input Select on the Marantz?
