Been watching some of the events over the last few days.

Saw a bit of the BMX freestyle I think it was called, both male and female. Are these people insane? You're supposed to ride a bicycle sedately down the road, giving those you pass a bit of a nod, not hurl yourself off veritable cliffs while doing a somersault. Good to see them having a go, though.

Huge cheer also to Jessica Fox, fantastic achievement.

Matter of fact, a big well done to everyone who got there, whether they win, lose, or draw. Go you people.

Mighty effort from the swimmers, too. Saw one swimmer from Angola in one event. Didn't win, but well done getting there.

I like the Olympics!

I must agree that the BMX was the most exciting event of the whole lot, the French guy who came second was my favourite, insanely entertaining.

Really good when some of the smaller , less well funded Countries get up and win medals, good on them. Also beyond all the fantastic achievements I love the acts of sportsmanship and quirky individuals who defy expectation.

"Just F#@king Go"!!!!!

Go Saya, great effort.

Geez, she's had a bit of adversity, clichéd i know, but good on her.

Saw some of the mens doubles tennis. Thought the image of the little girl with her fingers crossed was delightful. Seemed to have the desired effect, too. Well done, her!

See our Hockey sides unfortunately not made past qtr finals stage. Just reading report on Hockeyroos loss, some dubious ref decisions, who wouldv'e thought. Call me cynical, but i've seen a number of dubious/shocking decisions go against Australian (team) sides, regardless of sport, on the International stage.  Can assure you, for example  if the Boomers had THE best side in the world,  they would not win a gold medal. The IOC would not allow it, 100% guarantee it.

Our womens rugby 7's side for example, had a rude awakening unfortunately.  Watched the game they played against Ireland, and the ref did everything he possibly could to cause an upset. When i saw him again ref the game against Canada, for the gold medal playoff, i knew we would we not win. Granted they outplayed us, however, I have experienced it, at club level sports. If a ref has a grudge against a side, they most certainly influence the result of the game.  Rant over.

Congratulations to Arisa Trew who won the gold in the skateboard. At 14 years of age she's become the youngest ever Australian to win a medal at the Olympics. To top it off, she hugged and congratulated her opponents when they finished off their routines. What a nice kid. 🙂

Men’s Team Pursuit, World Record if you don’t mind.

Their new Factor bikes look the business and are quick.

If I'm not mistaken I think one of the commentators mentioned the bikes were worth $100,000 each.

Saw some of the women's high jump the other day, then later on saw some men's pole vault. It is simply astounding what people can achieve!

Sounds extreme, but probably not in the world of professional cycling.

Well, that's the figure commentator Scott McGrory stated, out to redeem themselves (engineering wise) from the disastrous handlebar break in Tokyo. Factor bikes originated in Norfolk, England.

Have a search for the world record in men's speed climbing that was set last night.

Climbing a 15m high vertical wall in 4.75 seconds.

Wow.

Nice to see my home town girl Nina Kennedy bring home the gold in the poll vault. There is a huge mural of her upside down painted on the side of our cinema .Which is a bit OTT .Or OTB {over the bar]!

Did you see the end of the men's this morning? The silver and bronze medalists skated over to raise Keegan on their shoulders after he'd won. The skaters are a team that seems to transcend the countries they ride for...

Good to see Stingers prevail and make to Gold M playoff. Unfortunately, our beach volleyballers beaten by World No1's Brazil, i think.  Must say Brazilians didn't make mistakes.  Our girls fluffed a couple of serves at crucial times in 3rd set.

Well, it's all over. Gotta say that the bits I watched were all enjoyable, even tensely exciting.

As to non-competitors, I thought Anna Meares did a sterling job.

Well done to all; winners, losers and everyone in between!

It's the first Olympics I've watched since Mexico 68, with Aussie sprint silver medalist Peter Norman standing next to the 2 black Americans with their gloved fists raised on the dais. An iconic image.

Also Bob Beamon's phenomenal long jump which beat the world record by nearly 2 feet. It's still stands as an Olympic record.

Fast forward and here's Mr Beamon at 76 years old playing congas in a jazz band. Bravo!
