Hi guys,

I have struggled to find proper long lasting bulbs for JVC Projectors. I seem to always end up buying them in the wrong places, I would buy the ones that say genuine bulb in genuine housing etc and even still i find they dont last as long or have other issues compared to the ones my JVC projectors came with. My bro has been having the same issue . He tried contacting JVC support to find out where they recommend to buy from but they never got back to him.

Do people buy the JVC original bulbs and are they called OEM or Genuine?  And where do they get them from?

Thanks mate, That was the next store i was going to try out. Problem i noticed is, they dont have the JVC bulbs for my bro who still has a JVC HD550. Any clue which store he can go to for them?

Might be worth a call to the same place to see if they can get one in. TBH it's a bit of a punt putting a new original lamp into a HD550 given its age.

What do you mean? like its bad for the projector or that its not worth the costs of the bulb as the projector may die any minute?

The latter - while these were well built, they're long in the tooth nowadays.

Al the 3 jvc I have had across 3 gen have done fine with genuine jvc bulbs. So I would see no reason popping a genuine jvc bulb in to replace. The spare I have from oztheatre is genuine jvc with box etc. not needed to use yet as still long life left in existing bulb 🙂

Both the "genuine" bulb I bought previously for my x30 and my bro bought for his HD550 have not lasted long. In both cases after a couple of hundred hours or so, they started to give problems and also got very dim. They were both bought from this shop in lane cove in sydney.

Well I don’t know what genuine bulb that is … I’ve never had a genuine jvc bulb start to give problems or get dim in couple hundred hours. Was it brand new jvc branded, unopened in jvc box ? And sealed new ?

You sure not some projector issue ? the x30 had all sorts of balust issues in backwards etc.. hd550 is going so far back, they were prior to x35 which I would never recommend anyone buying a unit prior. And even those (x35) I couldn’t recommend now as so old ! Last one I saw was very tired nothing like what my unit I had back in day and was capable of.

I had fixed the ballast issue on my x30, No it was a bulb issue, when i changed back to a proper JVC bulb, it worked fine. I mean there are shops that say genuine but they arent genuine JVC but some sort of hybrid / copy . The price is a lot lower too. Only like 200 or so i think.

Well that will explain it if saying genuine but aren’t genuine jvc and a hybrid copy. There are plenty on likes of those on web I wouldn’t touch. It’s well known fact these are not as bright as genuine jvc.

id only buy a jvc original from likes of oztheatre, will cost more than the $200 junk. But will get a sealed new jvc original lamp. And will come jvc packaged branded and sealed. Wouldn’t touch anything else. I’ve read stories of folks buying these other lamps taking out a genuine original jvc lamp and finding the web bought one supposed original isn’t even as bright as the lamp being taken out.. what is point of that !

you get long hours too on the genuine original article too so buying these $200 “cheapies”is a false economy…

I know that Europe is introducing some kind of ban on bulbs next year. Does anyone know whether JVC plan to still sell replacement lamps locally?

I recently picked up an NP5. Very happy with it however I am a little bit paranoid that even official lamps will be hard to find.

On a related note, has anyone purchased a PK-L2618 lamp recently? Any recommended seller?

edit:

From what I have read, there are certain exemptions in Europe which allow the selling of replacement lamps for at least a few years. May or may not be for lamps of 2000 lumens+ only. But as PK-L2618 is 2200 lumens in the NX9 it sounds like it should fall under that exemption.

Yeah will be planning on getting official JVC. I don’t mind the idea of a third-party bulb but they just seem so shady in general (was that a pun? definitely not intended 😛). Really don’t know what you’re going to get. Maybe after the warranty period I would be willing to take a risk.

I’m going to try stick to low lamp for 2D but 3D seems just so much better in high lamp that I would be doing a disservice to run it in low.
