I've never had problems streaming FLAC from RP on my MacBook.

Here's a screenshot from their website.

 

 

I never use the website because I stream RP through my Roon server but it does stream FLAC straight from the website.

Try the two live stream links I gave see if they open and play immediately, this is what I want to do as there's nothing but music using all of the bandwidth.

Windows and Android open them no problem and once heard you will not go to any other way of listening to RP

You are correct. Those links won't play on the MacBook. They just attempt to download with no result.

 

I can't see how the sound quality would vary between your linked streams and the website streams though. They are both exactly the same digital music stream so will have identical music content. The only difference is there is metadata and a nice UI on the website.

 

I put your stream URLs into Roon "My Live Radio" and they play fine. I'm not convinced they sound any different from the website streams though. The major downside is you miss out on all the metadata etc.

That's what I originally said, just needed someone else to confirm it to me in case I was doing something wrong on the iPhone, so I'll stick with Windows or Android based laptop or phone. Would have been nice if Apple weren't such          , and allowed them to be live streamed on their platform also.

It's been said before by others here on SNA that all the metadata/UI involved in apps when live streaming, takes away from the sound quality live streaming resolution, audibly lowering it.

That I'm sure is what I hear when using just those meta data free 2 links with Windows, instead of via RP Apps for windows that are set for flac. (If you have a Windows try it)

Naturally on a good system that shows it with width depth and image placement, not headphones or kitchen/office book shelf system

Without all the meta data being streamed with the music, you'll clearly hear better more extended highs and a more open sound, even though both are set for flac
