RPJG Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Hi all, I've just moved into a weatherboard house in a very quiet area near Healesville. The to-be-theatre room is about 7.5m x 5m x 2.7m with lots of problems - no wall insulation, thin doors, semi-open-plan into kitchen/living area, and large expanses of float glass. I know there's a lot of work that needs doing so that my neighbours don't have to enjoy my heavy metal and/or movies every night, so I'm looking for someone who can help with the understanding the various options to mitigate noise escaping the house, while also ending up with a reasonable-sounding room. I can spend several tens of $K on the room, but I want to ensure that I choose sensible bang-for-the-buck options. So I'm looking for advice from someone who's been there and done that, who can assess the property/house/room, help me choose between a wide range of options and their costs/benefits, understands building permits, knows companies/people who will do a good job of the various works, and so on. Does anyone have recommendations for such a person?
David A Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I can tell you my first Hifi Store i'd talk to about a high end HT in Melbourne is @Tivoli Hi-Fi in Camberwell. They have been in business for over 50 years, so they must be doing something right. They also sold me my first floorstanding hifi system back in 1992. Speaking from personal experience, their customer service and after-sales care is excellent. They are also very strong with their HT expertise and carry some impressive brands such as Storm Audio AV processors, JVC projectors, Severton screens and Artnovion room acoustics to name a few. I'd recommend speaking to Dale Rivers in the first instance who is their Head of Home Cinema and AV technology & a nice guy to boot. Hope that helps.
RPJG Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 Thanks David. I think I'm OK with the gear side of things, I'm more looking for someone who knows the house/room side of things.
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted September 4, 2024 Volunteer Posted September 4, 2024 If you are looking at room treatments some members speak highly of @CORSINI Acoustic Solutions I don’t have any personal experience, nor do I know if they deal with the building permits side of your question, but no harm asking. 1

Tivoli Hifi work with Acoustic Engineers and can design a HT room, incl: electrical, acoustic, lighting, seating and other considerations. Certainly worth putting on your short list. 1
