Expand If you look in the link, you will seen Scorptec has descibed this particular SSD as good for PS5's. I suppose you could ring them first to make sure. I order 4 of these 2tb drives last night, 3 are for use in a new Audio DAW build, and I'm still deciding if I'll send the nieces son up the other for his PS5, or keep it for yet another needed PC upgrade. Microsoft has just changed the list of supported Intel CPU's for the newest Win 11 24H2 build, it has removed 8th,9th and 10th generation Intel CPU's from the compatibility/support list. https://www.xda-developers.com/microsoft-drops-support-some-intel-cpus-run-windows-11-24h2/ I've got a 9th Gen i5 I've been using as a music DAW, hence the new much more powerful Music DAW build, I was going to repurpose that i5 PC for general usage, but now I can't get the latest Win 11 installed on it.[I've tried] I figure it's only a matter of time before support for that chip will go the same way as most PC's using Win 10, so I might as well upgrade that PC as well. I haven't suffered Playstation Thumb in years, well not until I tried to beat that latest Astrobot level Tick Tock Shock. I'm embarrassed to say I must of attempted 150+ times before I did it once , it's a deceptively tricky level, as every surface you land on is Ice, even the top of the birds [I repeatedly kept jumping between the two birds and sliding off], so it SO easy to just slip off. I think my best is now 52.?? sec Then you get these super platformers that can do it in under 29secs. I hate the way the person can be so precise [No chance for me] as to jump from the platform and hit the nose of the Dolphin sitting in the sea, who then flips him up onto the next platform. The WR below has been broken in the last few days by around 0.45 sec Edited February 19 by Tweaky

Worth a punt anyway for half of the bargain price.

Worth a punt anyway for half of the bargain price. Expand I hope it works out for you, you might be lucky a found it's from a gamer who wants to move to a Gen 5 SSD, and the drive has not had much use. Personally I would never buy a used SSD, unless I knew the person I was buying it off, and what he had been using it for. Two reasons for that. The first reason for that is SSD's have a limited read/write capability before sectors start to fail, if the person you have bought it off has been using that drive for editing videos, there is a good chance it won't last as long as you might hope, as the previous user would of been moving large video files to and from the drive, gradually wearing it out. Second reason You do know that their is a huge scam selling fake SSD's don't you ? Most have been originally bought from Ali Express or Temu by idiots who think they are getting the real thing for a fraction of the price, once they find out it a dud they might sell it on to some other unsuspecting buyer. The drive will work, but will act to the equivalent of comparing a OLD USB 1 drive to a current USB 3 or 4 Drive, in other words it will C..R....A...W.....L if its a fake. The reason is if it is a fake M.2 drive, it's got the gizzards of one of these old USB 1 thumb drives stuck on, and the rest is just added weight and a sticker to make it seem legit. https://www.ontrack.com/en-au/blog/how-to-spot-a-fake-ssd Once you get it, if possible install it in a spare M.2 slot in a desk top MB, find out what drive number it's been allocated and click on it, then check properties to see if the capacity and speed is what it should be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4HZjiEuM3U 1

I was planning on checking but hadn’t worked out exactly yet. I was thinking I just bang it in the PS5, start loading it up and put it to the test. I should get a pretty good idea of how it performs reasonably quickly. 1

Expand Yeah, the Sony system software is well known for rejecting things that don't fall into Sony spec, so if it doesn't like the SSD you will get a error code.
Tweaky Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 This guy installed a Kingston KC3000 as is straight out of the packet, then ran it for a while. But if you look at the comments you will see he later added a Heatsink to the SSD and found that it ran 10-20 degrees cooler, which is quite a big difference, so I'd definitely get a aftermarket cooler and fit it for PS5 use, especially for use in Australian conditions, as it's a tight fit with only a tiny amount of ventilation. I found a cheap one on Amazon that will fit, only available in Silver [once installed you never see it anyway] GLOTRENDS Heatsink for PS5 SSD with Copper Heatpipe and Installation Screw. https://www.amazon.com.au/GLOTRENDS-Heatsink-Heatpipe-Installation-PS5HS-BK/dp/B0BWXM9W5Y?th=1 1

Definitely advisable at least so I ordered one last night. I went for this one as it was about the cheapest to suit double sided, and coincidently looks to be the same as what that guy in the YT video used. That's not a PS5 slim though so just crossing my fingers a bit that it'll fit. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09LXM1HR8 Edited February 20 by manchu

I can't remember if my Seagate Firecuda SSD in my PS5 has double sided heatsinks or not, its been so long since I installed it. There is such a small enclosed space to install the drive into the PS5 anyway, I'm unsure if a heatsink is double sided or not will make much of a difference TBH, as long as the heat is moved out somehow. I would hope that the PS5 slim has at least kept the same sized expansion slot as the disc version, it would be pretty god darn stupid of SONY if it hasn't Sony would be just asking for a repeat of the heat related, console killing FAT BC 60gb PS3 fiasco of a decade or so ago [Very surprised there wasn't a class action over it TBH], one I suffered from, and despite a SONY repair, killed my console Can you let me know how you go with your heatsink fitted PS5 installation goes ? As in space between bottom of heatsink, and the bottom of the PS5 SSD enclosure. I have yet to decide if I'll send one of the 4 X KC3000's I've ordered to the kid for his PS5, or I keep it for what now seems to have become another needed PC upgrade/ build, thanks to Microsofts CPU WIN 11 24H2 none compatibility 1
Tweaky Posted February 21 Author Posted February 21 The 2nd of the New Astobot levels dropped today. Thrust of Bust speed run, the first video is how most mere mortals will probably approach it, the second video is from one of the current WR holders for this level, which I expect to be beaten pretty quickly, it just shows a different way of doing it. [I like how they managed to avoid the limpet mines attaching themselves to Astrobot]

Expand Install was fairly straight forward. I used 1pc thin silicone pad on the underside of SSD but none on top side because I couldn’t close the Heatsink properly with another pad in the sandwich. The Kingston heat spreader sticker seemed in fairly good contact with the Heatsink so I think it will be fine. whole thing fit in the slot fine, although very snug. . Hard to tell what the gap at the bottom is Drive itself looked legit, tested at 6907 MB/s on the PS5 and filled up over 50% of the 2tb ok so capacity seems good.

Expand Great, thanks for getting back If you have filled the standard internal drive that came with the PS5, I'd move some of the files off it onto the new drive. If I remember correctly, the PS5 Slim has a 1TB HD, but after the System software is installed, you are left with 850gb. I'd transfer games onto the new drive so you have at least 50gb of free space left on the original drive, it will keep things running smoothly and quickly, plus give you a bit of a extra safety net regarding sectors of the drive gradually failing.
Tweaky Posted February 28 Author Posted February 28 The third or five new levels of ASTROBOT speed run levels dropped last night. This is one of the more challenging ones. How a normal person would find it. How the top players have found a way of doing it....the freaks
