Hi everyone.

I had a listen to some Graham Audio speakers at a dealer here in Melbourne a few weeks ago. I was pretty impressed. I heard the LS8/1f and the big boy LS5/5. I was really taken with the presence in the vocals.

Are there owners of Graham speakers here on Stereonet? What do you own? How do you feel about them? 🙂

I have been really enjoying a set of Graham audio LS 6/F. These are standing in for my Spendor D9.2. So far they work really well in this small space.

I’ve heard the Graham Audio LS5/5s a few times now and I don’t think I could have them any higher on my short list, super linear with a slight roll off on the top but done in the best way.

It’s always interesting going to listen to a few of the “hifi sound” brands like Wilson and Magico being paired up with MSB or DCS and I will admit for the first 20 mins they do sound “perfect” but for me the listening experience starts to get fatiguing.

There is no real emotion behind that typical analytical sound for me and that’s where I believe the LS5/5s differ and really stand out, especially in the mid range which is so natural and so musical. I find them to be super open with an almost electrostatic sense and feel to them due to the unique front baffle design which improves the off axis dispersion. You don’t have to have your head in a vice lock to enjoy the image and they absolutely do image. The bass isn’t the most accurate but it’s super dynamic and has a lot of body and texture to it.

As someone described to me “they just make music”, I find that to be so true about Graham Audio. Hifi bug will always be there but no matter what comes and goes in the system I’d absolutely be willing to hang onto the LS5/5s as one of my personal favourites.

Also even though they are moderately sensitive at 88db and 8 ohm nominal, being the classic BBC monitor design I’ve found it best to go with a higher watt amp with decent current such as Chord, naim or even pass labs. That said I have heard them with Sugden and they still sounded magical.
