Toeknee Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I think it dropped yesterday, many Michi owners have been waiting a long time for this CD player DAC/Transport 5
JkSpinner Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Michi do make nice, well laid out stuff

HamishC Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Very interesting. I picked up a discounted Rotel DT-6000 in the last couple of months and it's interesting to see that the Q5 is using the same DAC model and configuration as the DT-6000. The same ESS9028PRO chips are in both models with the same 4 x 2 per channel config, as well as sampling rates and similar power transformers. Would love to know how these would sound side-by-side. I'd wonder on the relative value of something nearly 4 times more versus the status of Michi. 3
cafe67 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I’m surprised they didn’t do a sacd being a Japanese product, certainly looks good
DRC Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 $9499. Ouch. It makes the X5 Integrated (which has the same DAC) look like a bargain. Not too sure on the top load setup. It makes racking a bit of a problem if you also have a TT. But it does look purdy.
Dolphy Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Being an audiophile is not a poor man's game! I'm not sure if I'd hear angels playing in my lounge room with a $9500.00 CD player. 3
John0001 Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Lovely looking component. That price though...
maximus Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 If this lands in OZ won't be long before a 'GRAN SAL' 50% off, so hang in there Michi fans. 1

maximus Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 @cafe67No, not quite Dave, Diamond series in the Rotel range. 1
tone_al Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Just ordered a Q5 to go with my X5 You are probably getting a better product with dual transformers and better circuit and parts design in a better chassis 3

When you compare this to the new "Ten Series " player from Marantz, which is exactly double the price of the Michi it's almost a standing joke.
tone_al Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Yeah it's like all the Japanese companies have been increasing prices astronomically Luxman 509 was about 12k now the new model is about 18k The previous 10 models from Marantz where about 12k but charging 19 and 25 for the amp and cd is getting ridiculous might as well buy gryphon 2 1

Maybe SACD play back isn't that important because many people have very little or have limited access to the format so they solely concentrated on making the best cd player period. Many high end players are cd only gryphon or Hegel for example

Many high end players are cd only gryphon or Hegel for example actually many makers do sacd .. esoteric, marantz, luxman, denon, technics, audio flight, ps audio, soul note, ps audio, mark levinson, hmm labs, accuphase, bricasti, meitner, DCS, T+A, metronome, i think the comment came from the michi being a japanese player its unusual to not see sacd capability... and i too see it as a shame . i have quite a few sacd myself... and always owned players including marantz, sony, nad, oppo, pioneer, luxman, cambridge audio to name just a few ... I also appreciate some makers just do cd.. and thats fine.. i have and still own just cd players... however i dont myself see sacd players as compromising cd... though understand if have an opinion otherwise 1

With Luxman thou, it seems many who currently have the Luxman SACD players are using their "Luxman" amp too, so there may be some synergy so to speak when they are paired together, not that I use one however. 1

I moved across to the marantz ki ruby sacd i like the sound of in my system bit more warmth and richness but yeah doesnt mean might appeal to all. wish well in your search and to finding something that best suits theres a lot of lovely gear out there thats for sure...spoilt for choice 2

But they (me) were also fixating on visual alignment. Their (my) Marantz streamer really ruins the flow. With respect to sound, it wouldn't be easy for me to tell the difference between the Marantz, Luxman DA-250, or the D-06 if they were all hidden behind a curtain. - The Michi Q5 looks fabulous, and I'd appreciate the display panel - although I assume that's metadata fed via USB to DAC - especially if it can also be set to black for those many moments when one doesn't want a lightshow. 1
