I just made these 3 platforms for under $200. They work for what I needed and thought I'd share

IKEA chopping board
Aliexpress isolation pads (holds upto 50KG for 4)
Looks "OK" until I find some marble/granite that will replace them.
I just need to 180 the middle one as I don't want the IKEA name showing lol

Perfect size for PS Audio gear

I think they are made out of bamboo and resin. For me they would have to be timber. But if it works, it works.

I have done a similar thing, but used whites anti vibration pads under the Butcher blocks.

I have my speaker stands on them.

Nice Work !

Ive definitely heard the difference anti vibration pads make!

I just use bits of foam/ rubber…or anti earthquake feet from Daiso!!

I believe that I can do better!! 🤣

Getting the right combination of materials surely would help to cover a variety of different frequencies!

Youve got me thinking 🤔 which is usually a Bad thing 🤣!!

One reviewer suggested slates of 3 ply under your speakers to your floor small feet made from 3 ply.

For affordably effective isolation I still go for a Bamboo platform with Whites (now called Jack) anti vibration product underneath, the more porous 12cm square ones..

These are the plywood feet, I made to put under a mates speakers, (my old Version 3s). just made from Offcuts.

He tried hemi- spherical rubber feet from Amazon, but didn’t like them, ( allowed the speakers to wobble about and didn’t sound good.

He said with these plywood feet he was able to move the speakers away from the wall a bit to maintain the bass balance.

He is using Felt from Bunnings between the feet and the floor, which opens the can of worms about should that material be more vibration absorbant and how much. ( I would imagine the answer to that is different to the answer for Amps and Dacs and stuff).

So, I’m stealing some info from Mark Gusew’s Excellent recent review of the Harmonic Rezolution Systems base model product on Stereonet.

so, it has two plates of resin fabric composite..

I reckon I’ve seen this product at work used for Industrial purposes, and I’m told that it’s very expensive.. however unlike Corion or Kitchen bench top material, I would think that it absorbs certain vibrations..

It is separated by a “ Constrained layer damping system “.  Mass loaded Vinyl might do a similar job.  Also slightly expensive.

Then if you look at the feet, they seem to have multiple ways in which vibration is absorbed.
Maybe I’m wrong but it suggests to me that we have to target various different vibration frequencies.
Also the Fabric resin Composite would add Weight/ Mass, which I’m told also reduces vibration..

This solution seems to be designed for Component Vibration, not Speaker Vibration..

So, when “sound proofing” a ceiling on the bottle story of a two story house, the advice is to use 2 layers of denser plaster of different thicknesses, with a layer of “ green glue” in between which remains “ flexible “.
I suspect this may be part of why this system works..

Also this is a better view of “ Speaker feet” I’ve made from offcuts..definitely sounds better than being hard on the floor

The best ways to isolate and prevent vibrations being transitted is to trap the vibrations and absorb them.  This is what the constrained layer does.  The energy gets trapped in the layer, where it reflects and bounces around until it dissipates.     Works well in plinths, as well as platforms and feet.

Thanks Aussie Vintage,

do yo have suggestions for Constrainer layer materials?

Sorry not a materials expert.   Examples I have seen, seem to put a less dense material, sandwiched between two big heavier layers.

Thanks!

Im wondering about a sheet of Mass Loaded Vinyl???

I suppose so.  I think I have seen designs that use a sheet of polystyrene foam also.

In response to using the standard spikes of my Wilson Benesch Vector Floorstanders I went down the road of building a timber plinth to mount my speakers on......the timber slabs (a rain forest species) are 56cm x 33 cm x 3cm.....on the underside are 4 screw in spikes (Dayton Audio) plus some metal bracing plates (from Bunnings) to inhibit any timber from cracking. Provides a very stable platform.......slight rise in height of 4 cm approx......the downward facing bass ports are not inhibited and work fine.To the left is one of my DIY Speaker Cable stands.....uses 10cm x 10 cm timber squares with White's Anti resonance pads (Bunnings)......I made 10 of them to elevate my Kimber Kable Carbon 16 cables off the carpet.
