Just replaced the power cords for my studio monitors with the bulk Black Mamba V2 wired with Furutech FI-AU3112G + Fi-C15G & was floored by the change. I didnt have any expectations at all so it was a pleasant surprise.

Ando787 Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Waiting for 4 EGM rubies to arrive, just replaced a Thor Prodigy P8 powerboard with a PS Audio Dectet. Wow it’s made a big difference already, even before the cables arrive! Stock cables everywhere, yet the dectet somehow manages to open everything up and give more of everything at the same time. I might be a “power matters” convert… did someone say emerald? 1

Well done Andrew ... the first jump from generic OEM power cables and an entry level power board is likely the biggest SQ improvement you'll experience on this upgrade path. You can go further but I've found the improvements are smaller (and more expensive ) as go up the levels. My first move from OEM was EGM Red V2's and a Thor A12 powerboard. I'm now running EGM Emeralds (to mono blocks) and Black Pearl (to preamp) with a Keces IQRP-1500. The Keces is a very good bit of kit and well worth considering if you look to upgrade from the Dectet. If you do look to the Emerald level in the future talk to Joel at EGM about the right cable for the right component - his advice to me was Emerald for power amps and Black Pearl for preamp and source components ... the additional size / cost for the Emeralds is there to accomodate the high current draw of the power amp/s which is not required for the preamp or other components. Also be sure to include the power cable feeding the power board / conditioner / regenerator ... I have read that if you only improve one cable that's the first one to do - makes sense to me. Let us know what happens when you've put the rubies in and be sure to allow the cables to 'burn-in' before making a critical assessment - EGM recommends 'at least 48 hours of constant use'. They are likely to continue to settle and improve for up to 100 hours.

Such a nice guy, willing to give his time on the phone. geoff at HeyNow Hi-Fi is looking after me with the upgrade/cable swapping adventure! Will report back next week, stock cables and Thor powerboard vs stock cables and dectet vs rubies and dectet. I think Geoff has me lined up for a P15! Ooooof!
