Expand We have only one TV in our home, the S90C replaced my 19 year old LED, which was still working, but it was time for an upgrade to 4K/OLED, its in another league, no comparison. Hopefully I can get at least 10 years out of this OLED.. I waited a long time, before upgrading. Edited December 1, 2024 by Bass13 2

SonicArt Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Nothing wrong with Samsungs Neo QLED at all, dont care what they call the leds, the QN90 series are fantastic TV's, run an 85" for almost 2 years now. The new OLED Samsungs are beautiful, was looking at the 83" last week at HN, but it puts out a lot of heat from the screen vs the Neo QLED. If you are wanting to keep to a budget then you cannot go past the TCL C655 series, right now you can buy the TCL 50" C655 for $545 from HN if you haggle. I have a guy at HN so dont need to work much to get good pricing, I bought two C655 in the last week for family. Yes the C755 is better, its about $200 more for the 50" model, and if its a main TV then it would be the one I would gravitate towards. TCL also offers 3yr warranty on their TV's. 3 1
GaryT Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) I want to also throw in another positive point for the OLED option: I've found over the years that many TV manufacturers will offer a lower specification or missing features on the 50,60 and 70 sizes that the 55,65 and 75 sizes etc. have. It could be a lower peak brightness or a worse colour accuracy, a lower grade LCD panel spec, edge-lit vs backlit etc, even within the same product range with very similar part numbers and pricing. OLED on the other hand are effectively perfect at any size, apart from some models having higher peak or average brightness due to easier heat management and OLED pixel element sizes. the colour accuracy and most other variables are better matched at every size offering. LG offer a 48" in their B4 and C4 range, which is worth looking at if the screen is used in a dark room or at night, but less often in a bright room with the sun shining on it. If it's used during the day or in a bright living room, you cant beat a Mini-LED for the money (TCL recommended for the budget to mid price bracket) their weakness is when used in a dark room the flaws of the backlight system become apparent. MrBurns84 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Recently had the same challenge imposed by my inlaws moving to a retirement community. Old tv was a 42 inch lcd, wanted something new around that size. Ended up with a TCL mini led 50inch tv for around $1k, they couldnt have been happier. 1
Snoopy8 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 While OP has decided to spend more on OLED, thought it would be useful for people following this thread to view this budget TV comparison 1
blakey72 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Well I was always a Panasonic guy for years, devastated when they stopped selling in Australia. Since then I, for the lounge room I am now Sony type of guy. I just like their picture and quality. My current Sony is now 7 years old and not one issue. In fact the picture quality is still so good I feel no need to upgrade. In my main bedroom I use Hisense. Picture quality is very good and no issues with two Tv's so far. Only reason for the change was to get a bigger screen. I think it's an important purchase and you should get the best you can afford for your main room. It's just something that gets used all the time in most households. Don't make the mistake of going to big for the room as picture quality can suffer if done incorrectly with a cheaper unit. I sit 3m away and 55" is a perfect size IMO.
audiofeline Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 Thought I'd post an (overdue) update. Thanks to all who contributed. The upgrade of the TV has been postponed. The dishwasher started leaking and needed replacing, and took the time/funds. I'll probably start looking at TV's again when the next big sales are on (maybe waiting for Black Friday sales again?). I am a bit more clear on options thanks to your input. 2
