Yes, as it's a big step backward to use the Marantz onboard dac, instead of the gorgeous sounding MSB Discrete R2R 24/192 dac.

As I understand it, if you use the digital out from the Marantz into the MSB then you're bypassing the Marantz dac and handing off the audio data as it is to the MSB.

If you were to use the RCA out from the Marantz then its dac would do the decoding to analogue.

Looks like an streamer/dab+ upgrade for me

As I understand it all the new streamers can handle digital radio. But it's best to have a serious talk with the salesperson about that, and even get a demo of your fave digital radio stations.

If you can get a streamer with a digital out into your MSB then you can forego the streamers internal dac. As I mentioned in my PM, there's various models with display, without, and price levels 🙂

Yeah that's spending money for no sound quality gain for me.

As it is with what I have RP radio is max out, and I use it all day while working just to get things I want the album of on CD 16/44 which I prefer. This and using DRDB to get the best dynamic version of it used on eBay. I still prefer CD over any resolutions the streamers can give to me. Even the Mother Earth ones which are also lossless uncompressed flac stream but vinyl, so the channel separation is not the best especially in the bass. But you hear the record surface noise and click and pops just like a TT would if it were in the room with you.

Cheers George

did some more investigating and found this posted from Apple Music

"Can Apple Music play FLAC?"

No, the Apple music app does not play FLAC files, however using another app to convert to ALAC is painless, and since it's lossless to lossless, you lose no detail. I will point out, however, that for your own personal lossless ALAC files, you will only be able to play them on the computer you store them on."

Cheers George
