Kitauji Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Gday fellas, Hope you are all having a great Christmas. I'm looking for some advice on how to ship some large vintage speakers from Kobe, Japan to Melbourne. I've been living in Japan for a short while and obtained a beautiful pair of Technics SB-E100 speakers whilst I'm here. However, my time in Japan is coming to an end, and I'm looking at bringing the speakers back with me to Australia. They've treated me well, so I'm not keen on parting with them. Plus, they seem to be quite rare in Australia. Unfortunately, they are quite big speakers. They weigh just shy of 30kg each, and they measure 70cm wide x 60cm deep and 90cm tall. If anyone has any advice for shipping large speakers from Japan from a private residence, please let me know. Cheers, Aaron
mbz Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 The usual courier services will be reaonably quick but expensive. Suggest check with ImportMonster. Probably take 6-8 weeks via surface, they "containerize" it so you need to wait for the container to fill then ship. Yeah I would ensure excellent packing, maybe 3ply in front of drivers...
Kitauji Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 I never thought about using a car import store! Thank you for the tip. Have you or anyone else used the service before?
mbz Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 I mostly use Aleado to buy on Yahoo in Japan, on 2-3 occassions I purchased "over-sized" (Aust Post criteria >20kg or physical dimensions) items, Import Monster was very understanding and helped out with shipping these items for a reasonable rate. As said before, they ship by the container, yeah, mostly car stuff but they have since branched out into almost(?) anything on Yahoo, see there web interface to yahoo, it's not that nice compared to Aleado but their rates may be better. Speakers are a tough one due to shipping restrictions by some couriers, reminds me, need to get me a pair of NS-1000X or 2000's?
075Congo Posted February 20 Posted February 20 If you go to Interparcel (www.interparcel.com) online you can get quotations for sending speakers from Japan to any destination in Australia. I did a "dummy"quote and one large speaker box of 30KG would cost $916 AUD using the UPS Courier Service.....FEDEX (Fx) would cost $1200 AUD per box. Not cheap but 2 very reliable Courier services. Cheers Mick
