Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me with Soulnote A2/A3 integrated amplifier. Is it a good integrated amplifier. Has anyone demonstrated it and own one?

Between Simaudio Moon 641 and Soulnote, Which will be the better option.

Thank you

Both have interesting specs - however ... what are your spkrs?

I notice the 641 delivers 125w into 8 ohms and double this (250w) into 4 ohm spkrs.  Whereas the A3 specifies 120w into 4 ohms - and doesn't mention power output into 8 ohms.

On specs alone ... the 641 would be my choice.

Soulnote was started by ex Marantz engineers so that would be a clue to the sound. I heard one at the Toronto AudioFest but the conditions would not lead me to a definitive conclusion. Being a Moon 600iV2 owner makes me biased but having not heard the Soulnote properly I cannot say. However, they would both seem to be excellent choices. You are of course closer to Japan than Canada. In Canada the A3 is twice the money of the 641.

If you wish to get help from other members ... I suggest it is beneficial to provide the information they need, in order to be able to help you.

A quick search brings up 4 PMC spkrs - 5.22, 5.23, 5.24 and 5.26; as I don't know which model you have ... I can't provide you with any more help.

The 641 is the successor to the 600i. The power rating is the same but the 600i outputs class A into the first 5 watts. The 641 has a new topology that claims to not require the biasing into class A. I have 93dB 4 ohm speakers so I chose the 600i as it would be in class A 95% of the time. The 641 retails at $2k more than the 600i and I did not see it as being required for my needs as the 600i does everything that I want from an amplifier and it has a 10 year warranty as does the 641. I saved $2500 on the 600i when the 641 came on market. You may prefer the sound of the 641 and that is your prerogative. There are plenty of reviews of the 600i V2 online (Soundstage) and I think What Hi-Fi has one on the 641.

Hi Andyr, it's PMC twenty.26 - the older series of loudspeaker

I found a review of them where the guy was using a Bryston 4B SST2 (and they sounded great).

Which suggests to me that the Simaudio Moon 641 will be the one to get.

I heard the Soulnote A-3 integrated at the Australian Hifi Show in Sydney earlier this year, driving a pair of Audio Solutions Figaro M2 speakers. Firstly, that amp has more power than the base specs suggest. It has 2 x 700va trannies (1.4kVa total) and a large distributed power supply which is plenty. A few impressions of the amp... it sounds smooth, tonally neutral with good dynamics and PRAT, and lends a nice purity to vocals and instruments. I'd say my Vitus SIA-025 sounds warmer and more tube-like in Class A. But it depends on the balance of your system and the sound you're looking for.

And, I'd suggest ... your spkrs efficiency and impedance rating.
