Powerglide Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Fooling around with different amps and speakers and looking for some feedback on how others would set up for my phono for this cart. Currently running 1mV gain with 310 ohms loading There are limited options via jumpers, here are the parameters. Regards Powerglide
AFCAD Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Based on my experience with my Benz LP-S, on your set up with the MC Wood you might try the 470 ohms loading option (and go further if you could). From memory, I've settled at 2500 ohms for the LP-S. Some seem to like more than that, gets down to preference at the end of the day. Not sure that there is a right or wrong answer...
Powerglide Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 (edited) I tried 470 on initial set up and I lost half volume in one channel? as I’d just set up the cart it took a little trouble shooting to pin it down to the loading, dropping back to 310 fix it. Anyone know what the cause of that might be? Edit: the volume drop on one channel is when the gain is set to ImV dropping back to 500uV corrects the balance? Edited January 2 by Powerglide

Like @AFCAD, I think you should also try higher. It seems with no loading jumpers ... you can get 1K5. You may find that even higher sounds better ... unfortunately, you can't try this, with your MC boards. If you're interested in experimenting with loading ... I can lend you one of my 'Paris' head amps. You would use this with your MM boards and could try loading all the way up to 47k! PM me if you're interested. And at 0.8mV cart output ... I would suggest re. gain that either jumper 1 or jumper 2 is appropriate - depending on how much gain your preamp has. 2
Powerglide Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Thanks for the offer Andy, either MM or MC boards were an option with the Exposure XXVI and I only have the latter. This was an experiment to see if I could get some more volume out of a little Weston tube amp feeding some hungry speakers. I put on a high output MC cart and opted on the high side with the gain, still I appreciate the maths should be the same for the ‘’optimum’’ set up. Still a mystery why it wont run correctly with the 1mV jumper fitted? Not a real concern as 500uV is fine with other amps and the Weston has been here on holiday for way too long @simo8989 1
