Hi, my wife's godfather bequeathed us with a Esoteric sound system, PASS amplifier and Revel speakers. I was directed to this site for more info via facebook, so hopefully can do research. Regards Nick

HI Nick, Welcome ... are you looking to sell the gear or use it? That's some good stuff so if you use it you should be pretty happy - plenty of folks here will be happy to help you get it set up to perform at its best. If you are looking to move it on then with some more info (and pics as @Mendes suggested above) would be helpful and people will certainly help with approximate values ... the classifieds here are very active.

Hi here are the pictures of the sound system before they were boxed and picked up: a pair of Revel Ultima Studio 2 speakers, a PASS XA25 amplifier (?) and 3 Esoteric units (a power supply, cd player and pre-amp?) plus a stand. Will need to unbox them later to get more details, though I suspect some people will know the model numbers on sight.

Ripping gear, this was obviously loved by your wife's godfather so gifting it to her shows how much she meant to him.  Knowing what you wish to do with it all, either keep it and get help in setting it up, or sell it off will largely dictate what advice you'll get.

Hi, yes we were flabbergasted by his generosity, but sadly we couldn't accommodate such an luxury in our house, so at the moment is boxed up in storage and slowly gathering dust working out JUST what to do 🙂

You’ve possibly already been inundated with offers for the gear. Some of those offers may have even been fair!

My advice is to set the system up and live with it for a bit before you make any decisions. There’s some really nice gear there and you don’t want to regret selling it

Could not agree more.

Obviously I am not aware of the logistics or the OP's situation, but it is really a buyers market and he may not achieve great sale prices. I would certainly (at least ) set up the system and have a really good listen over a few weeks before making a decision.

Ultimately, what the OP decides is none of my business, but I would respectfully advise that evaluating the system in operation is really a must do.

Hi, in NSW

Great, thanks.

Just wondering in case anyone was considering looking at the gear or auditioning it to consider a sale.

Now we know it’s within an 800 000 square kilometre area, so people can easily decide on whether the commute is worth it.

Good luck!

Awesome system, hope you listen to it first.

I am in a modest flat and would live with that system if it were me, but It's not me so if you do listen to it and still end up selling it don't rush and wait for authentic buyers that will pay what it is worth, beware of flippers.

Hey Nick. There are some wonderful people in the Stereonet family.

You have certainly done the right thing by asking for advice.

My advice would be don’t be in too much of a hurry to let things go.
Write  down the model numbers of everything including cables and accessories. Then do lots of homework to insure you familiarise yourself with the retail price of each item new, this and again a lot of homework will make sure you sell every item at the correct current selling price.  As others have rightly said, it’s a buyers market at the moment so not really a great time to be selling.
Did you take photos of how everything was setup before up before you and your wife boxed it up??

Good luck with whatever you decide, but if in doubt keep asking you will always get some great advice here.

John😊

Holy moly! Most of us would be envious of such a system. That is VERY NICE gear that you were gifted. If I were you, I would set them up and enjoy.

Hi John, I took photos while we dismantled it, so hopefully I can refer to them to set up. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

@NickLaw's sig says Lawson - between Penrith and Katoomba.

@NickLaw - as others have said - that's very nice gear! and I also agree with others you should set it up and listen before deciding what to do.

A very nice offer from @AudioGeek to help set it up!

Revel is the Harmon Group's high end consumer speaker brand. They also own JBL, big in the pro audio market.

Revel speakers have a reputation for good sound - they particularly try to achieve a smooth "off-axis" response matching their "on-axis" response - something typical flat baffle box speakers don't achieve.

If you're able to remove the speaker grills, you'll likely find the tweeter is mounted in a waveguide/horn, rather than flat on the front baffle like typical speakers.

Pass Labs was created by Nelson Pass - an icon in the audio world!

Nelson is also very big in the DIY world - his nickname is Papa, and he is very generous with his time and his designs to the DIY community.

Pass Labs amps are very well regarded - but note that being Class A, they'll generate quite a bit of heat - that's why you have the big heatsinks down each side of the amp.

Here's a review by Stereophile Magazine: https://www.stereophile.com/content/pass-laboratories-xa25-power-amplifier

It would be a crying shame to leave the system in storage - set it up and enjoy it!
