krazywaffle Posted January 5 Posted January 5 A mate lent me a solid state phono stage made in QLD by ME Electronics. Has anyone heard of this brand? Or have any experience with their gear (specifically phono stage would be ideal)? Three continuously variable adjustments per channel are made via inset flathead screws. There doesn’t seem to be a “defeat” position where adjustment screws “click” into place (eg, 12 o’clock). Here are pictures of the unit. Thanks heaps for any insights.
Zaphod Beeblebrox Posted January 5 Posted January 5 This is not a product of ME Sound P/L. It may be made by someone attempting to cash in on the ME Sound name. It was certainly not designed and built by Peter Stein. I've never seen this brand nor product. It may be unique.
krazywaffle Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Thanks for the insights. Wondering if the extra line extending from the M of the “ME” logo is what is supposed to distinguish it from ME Sound P/L? Can’t find any info online about make/model. According to my mate, it came from a radio station. Haven’t hooked it up yet so can’t comment on performance, but planning to do so soon (thought I had XLR to RCA interconnects but don’t so need to source some first). Speaking of, would you recommend an XLR female to RCA male interconnect cable or the XLR female to RCA female adapters (e.g., https://www.jaycar.com.au/3-pin-xlr-type-socket-to-rca-plug-adaptor/p/PA3802)?

Dunno about the logo, but I very much doubt that ASIC would allow registration of a name that is so similar to ME Sound P/L. It's likely a backyarder cashing in on the ME name. I can't answer the question about XLR or RCA, as I am unfamiliar with the topology inside the unit. In general terms, XLR connections make no difference in a typical domestic situation. As for cables, the fewer the number of contacts, the better, so a XLR - RCA cable would be best. 1
Zaphod Beeblebrox Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Just now, muon* said: Could it be MTE Very possibly. That is still not a brand I am familiar with, but looking at the logo, it does make sense. 1

krazywaffle Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 It appears that this question was asked about 2 years ago (found when searching for MTE Queensland instead of ME Queensland): 1
Pigpen Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Possibly associated with MTE mixing consoles / electronics etc. from the late 70s early 80s?
krazywaffle Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Thanks. That timeframe seems about right based on info attained thus far. Will try and open tonight and add internal pics for further information about potential performance based on topology.
