Hey all,

I've this Phillips Miniwatt ECC32...

It's etched:

1185

MLA

How do I read the code.

Also with Mullard CV181

BJ

CV181

KB/A

How do I read that code... I have gone to mullard magic and Jesse Brent but feel I'm more lost than before.

Thanks in advance...

It's almost impossible to decipher the MLA date code. Rest assured the 1185 tube code confirms a genuine Mullard Blackburn manufactured ECC32 tube. The BJ code represents September 1946 production.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I may have finally cracked the MLA code studying many date codes over 20 years on ECC32, ECC34 and ECC35 tubes.

M stands for Mullard. A stands for the Blackburn factory. L stands for year and month of manufacture as per below. I know the ECC32 tube was first introduced in 1948 so this coding nomenclature makes sense. So L would represent September 1948 production. What is certain is that you have a version 1 tube.

I think this link will take you to the image that doesn't seem to work above.
And it's got a lot of other tube ID info...
